Dwarves

Basic Information

Anatomy

Mostly similiar to humans. One noteable exception is a more active appendix, and larger by weight liver. This seems to aid in beter detoxification, which is extrememly helpful in metal dust environments underground.

Biological Traits

Some groups of dwarves have almost universally bald men. Some also have universally bearded females. These traits often get latched onto as the dwarven sterotype. They are however not always true.

Less visible is the dwarves more limited taste pallet, they enjoy hot spices and strong alcohols in part becasue of a decreased sensitivity to those substances. It makes dwarves able to eat many things others would consider smelly or distasteful. They have a significant reduced sense of bitterness, making some dwarven food unpalatable by others.

Genetics and Reproduction

Slightly slower reproduction rates than humans, the Dwarven menstrual cycle is aproximately 70 days long though gestation is only seven and half months long. This does make it more likely for Dwarves to have Neer-Twins where they are born the same year but eight to nine months later than a sibling.

Growth Rate & Stages

Dwarves mature slightly slower than humans until maturity, 25 year old being their equivalent to a human 18 year old. Grey hair starts in the late 70s and old age sets in around 180 years but can last a very long time.

Behaviour

Typically serious with dry humor. Dwarves exhibit a full range of emotions. Their image of being dour and gruff is more of a social trait that a purely biological one. For shorter lived races than the dwarf they can come off as plodding and slow in their decision making. Though the Elves often consider them hasty.
