Malevolence Five

"Malevolence Five is perhaps the greatest creation of Andromeda Corporation. This being carries with it the potential to change warfare forever, saving countless lives as it replaces traditional battles with army-breaking terror." - Malevolence Five Overseer's Manual
Malevolence Five was the name for a type of magical construct created by Andromeda Corporation for the Trebai Ascendancy during The Twenty-Year War. The last of the Malevolence-series Terrata Constructs manufactured by Andromeda, it was the only one to actually be deployed by the Ascendancy, with Malevolences One through Four being dysfunctional prototypes.   One of the most advanced constructs of its time, Malevolence Five possesses several abilities, including the ability to raise dead bodies to fight for it, the ability to instill deep fear and dread within those nearby it, and the ability to move stealthily across dense terrain. The machine's purpose was to save lives in warfare by terrorizing an enemy to an extent so great that they would be forced to retreat.
The construct was built using magical technology largely adapted from the Circle of Noyaux Awaal, an ancient cult located in Atla Vikal, south of Atla Vera. Before the war, as tensions grew, Andromeda Corporation sponsored an expedition to the continent where the cult's headquarters were stormed, and its technology was raided. Among these findings were spell-based mechanisms that could be used to create a semi-sentient magical construct.   Following this expedition, Andromeda Corporation, under the supervision of the Sunlit Isles Trading Company, launched the Terrata Project, which was aimed at using the expedition's findings to create new psychological-based weapons of war. The project lasted well into the war, almost being cancelled several times after unsuccessful attempts to build a stable magical construct that served the correct purpose. In the war's final year, a functional prototype was finally made with the completion of Malevolence Five.   The Trebai Ascendancy purchased a very small number of Malevolence Five units, with the constructs only seeing action in a few isolated incidents. The units proved successful individually, but because of their small number, as well as the expansive ranks of the Makovai Coalition, they overall made little difference in the war.   Following the conflict, remaining Malevolence Five units were stored in secret locations, despite Andromeda Corporation's pleas for the machines to be destroyed. One such location was a cave on the remote island of Aurora Point, where it was accidentally triggered by Makovai miners. The unit was destroyed by a group led by Marcilla Beauregard after it wreaked havoc on nearby settlements.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

These mechanisms were combined with magic that could instill fear, as well as necromancy-based magic. The construct's inner magical workings were housed in a prism-shaped vessel carried by several steel spider-like legs, with all outside components painted dark gray. Though the prism itself was featureless, Malevolence Five used illusion magic to project a distorted humanoid face on itself, in an effort to add to the fear it instilled in enemies.
