Lurra

At the roots of the Porso Hills, nestled between the rivers Datte and Lure, lies the town of Lurra. It is part of the Clan of Fallavar, and lies close to the border with the Drinlo Clan of the Golden Plains and as such has developed into a fortified settlement over the years. What Lurra is most known for, is its tannery industry. While its stench mostly deters folk, the people of Lurra have come to appreciate and take pride in it. They often joke that they don't need town walls; the smell will keep the enemy away!   Lurra is located on a elevated outcrop at the eastern end of the Porso hills. Here was it once a watch post of which the old walls trace its origins back to the days of the Burbric Empire. When the Empire fell, the Fallavar Clan claimed the small fortress, which sat at the border between it and the Drinlo Clan to the south. That border has remained mostly unchanged over the centuries, leaving Lurra an important outpost.   The people of Lurra have always been adept leatherworkers. Some would even go as far as to suggest that the name stems from the Old Ryric word Lurdeicus, which means leatherworker, though that might be a stretch, not in the least because the Olor word for foothill is Lurda. Still, the people of Lurra prefer the former origin over the latter.   Lurra is not ruled by a warlord or chief, like most other Olor settlements. Instead, it is democratically organised, and ruled through a þing, or folkmoot, where its citizens gather in the church of Kordus. Here they discuss all sorts of matters, from family disputes, to matters of theft and divorce, and even matters of war. While these were originally led by the town elders, this role has been taken over by the priests of Kordus, after the Burbric Empire introduced The Great Balance to Olorlay. As such, the priests have the most direct influence over the town.
