The University of Eastwynne
The University of Eastwynne, more commonly referred to as East U or Eastwynne University, is, arguably, the number 1 university in the Commonwealth. With an acceptance rate of 3%, it is a tough and expensive school to get into and only the most skilled mages* attend.
Demihumans and humans are also a part of the student demographics.
A student body of around 40,000.Members of noble families are notable alumni, even leaving their respective countries to attend. This was the case of Vincent Knight and Raena Donovan.
This school relies heavily on gauging the magical ability of its applicants. The admission board favors the elite and/or skilled. In fact, most of the student body is in the upper echelon, and competition is fierce. For someone of lower status to get in, they must stand out completely. Going to extreme lengths to prove their worth, be well-rounded and so proficient in magic that it even suppresses the elites. Those of higher status have less to prove due to their place in society.
The first battle is just getting in, this school is a massive investment and financial aid barely makes a dent. Scholarships are rare, but not impossible. A notable example is Ester Faye’s acceptance. She is an average mage and no one of high status, but, mostly, due to her unnaturally strong magical ability, she was not only accepted but received a full scholarship.
Somewhat differently from standard human society, specifically American, after graduating high school most take a one to two-year break before starting college. The average age of college freshmen is 19-21 years old. It is still a 4-year program for a bachelor's degree.
Life at East U is not much different than a typical top private university. Students have access to the best amenities, facilities, and instructors, just add magic. The whole point of the school is to mold the cream of the crop and the best of the best.
Although humans are admitted, most classes cater to spellcasters and magic applications. This does put humans at a disadvantage, as they can’t use magic and miss some of the instruction, but there are non-magical classes.
