Zandalar
Summary
The cradle of all troll civilizations, Zandalar is a massive island continent steeped in blood, gold, and prophecy. Home to the Zandalari Empire, the oldest surviving empire in Azeroth, this land is defined by its towering golden temples, Loa worship, and deep internal politics. Once aloof and proud, Zandalar was forced into global conflict during the Fourth War, reshaping its destiny and alliances forever.
Notable Regions:
- Zuldazar – The heart of the Zandalari Empire and the oldest city in the world. A sprawling jungle surrounds golden ziggurats, bustling marketplaces, and sacred Loa shrines. Political intrigue and imperial pride simmer behind its grandeur.
- Nazmir – A festering swamp on the eastern side of the continent, where decay thrives. Once a seat of Zandalari power, it now harbors blood trolls, fallen temples, and the influence of the blood god G’huun.
- Vol’dun – A vast, arid desert on Zandalar’s western edge, used as a penal colony by the Zandalari. Refugees, exiles, and Sethrak serpent-people inhabit this harsh and spiritually charged wasteland.
- Dazar’alor – The massive pyramid capital nestled in Zuldazar. It houses the royal palace, the Hall of Loa, and the Zanchuli Council. It also serves as a key Horde stronghold following the Fourth War.
Major Cities:
- Dazar’alor – The political and spiritual capital of Zandalar. Constructed atop a vast ziggurat, it honors the gods and monarchy alike. Site of both diplomacy and bloodshed during the Battle of Dazar’alor.
- Atul’Aman – A sacred mountain shrine in Vol’dun revered by the vulpera and Sethrak. Its ancient power still draws seekers and zealots.
- Gloom Hollow – A secluded Zandalari outpost in Nazmir used for launching operations against the blood trolls and containing the rot.
Factions:
- The Zandalari Empire – A proud, ancient troll empire with deep traditions and Loa worship. Now part of the Horde, their people struggle between old customs and new allegiances.
- The Blood Trolls – Degenerate cultists twisted by G’huun’s influence. They revere blood, death, and decay, and pose a constant threat from Nazmir.
- The Sethrak – Serpent-like people of Vol’dun, divided between the peaceful Faithless and the zealous Devoted. Their culture revolves around sun worship and ancient pacts.
- The Vulpera – Resourceful desert nomads with a keen sense of trade, storytelling, and survival. Eventually ally with the Horde.
- The Loa – Powerful troll deities worshiped throughout Zandalar. From Bwonsamdi, the loa of death, to Rezan, guardian of the kings, these beings directly influence the fate of the land.
- The Zanchuli Council – A ruling advisory body led by powerful trolls who guide political and religious decisions under the king or queen. Their motivations are often opaque and steeped in tradition.
- The Horde – Gains a foothold in Zandalar through diplomacy and shared enemies. The alliance with the Zandalari reshapes Horde geopolitics, especially following the Fourth War.
