Kraken Priest

The Kraken Priest was an important figure in the Requian Coast since the first Kraken attack and was given a lot of power to prevent it from doing it again.

Career

Qualifications

The role of Kraken Priest isn't granted by a higher member or election, the next Kraken Priest is simply chosen by the universe. The retiring Kraken Priest must locate his successor through omens such as unnaturally high waves or dead birds with no discernable cause of death. Once they find the successor, they may promote them to Priest no matter the age or living situation.

Payment & Reimbursement

The Kraken Priest is paid in a life of luxury in Seaview or any other coastal settlement of their choosing. They may eat what they like, do what they like, and ultimately live what they like. The life of a Kraken Priest is a life poor peasants think their Kings live.

Perception

Purpose

The Kraken Priest uses rites at the end of every month to refresh the seals that keep the Kraken asleep. If the time is needed, they may partially awaken the beast with the sound of an iron bell and control it as if they were possessing the Kraken. The Kraken Priest may also destroy the seals with the proper ritual on the iron bell the next time it rings, which has yet to ever happen.

Social Status

The Kraken Priest is seen as the highest member of Requian society and the protector of the coast's people. They are overall treated kindly and always thanked as a greeting for keeping the Empire safe.

History

The role of the Kraken Priest has been around since the Kraken's first attack on the Requian Coast. There were eight priests before 106 A.G. when the Requian Empire fell to the Kraken's second attack. Since then, not only has the position of Priest been made useless, but has also been hated for failing to keep the Kraken asleep.
