Arcane Casting
Arcane Casting is a form of magic casting that allows creatures who don't have innate magic to cast spells. Arcane Casting is also used by creatures with limited magic who want to broaden their capabilities.
Innate Casting
Innate Casters are creatures that can naturally use magic. Examples of this can be a fairy's mystical ability to heal wounds or a Tiefling's abyssal spells. Many cannot naturally cast spells, such as Humans, so they have to resort to other means to use magic. How To Use Arcane Magic
Arcane magic are rituals that infuse runes with the magic of an innate creature or material. The innate magic (mana) is transferred into these runes by using a tool called an Arcane Focus. Once these runes are filled with mana and are placed in the correct spell circle, the symbols will burn off the medium and become a spell. The spell will usually linger around the Arcane Focus for the user to fling or shoot the spell at the correct target.Arcane Focuses
Arcane Focuses are objects made by materials or creatures that have or had innate magic, the same innate magic that is later infused into the spell circles. The most common material to be used in an Arcane Focus are delvian crystals which are easy and ethical to use. Crystals usually are used to create Arcane Focuses which are staffs or crystal balls. Sometimes casters will create Arcane Focuses with animal remains that have yet to lose their magical essence. These animal corpses are commonly turned into wand cores and druidic charms.Blood Magic
Blood Magic is a subcategory of Arcane Casting that refers to the use of Arcane Focuses that are made out of living creatures. The benefit of using living creatures is that their mana can empower arcane spells. Going back to the Fairy example from earlier, using a jarred fairy as an Arcane Focus can empower healing spells, and even in some cases bring the dead back from the grave (this would usually kill the fairy). Another advantage to Blood Magic is similar to delvian crystals, as its power is reusable as long as the focus stays alive. Focuses that have a soul powering it is also considered Blood Magic even though it's not technically alive. Blood Magic is outlawed by most countries and its punishment varies but is usually execution or at the bare minimum the removal of body parts that allow the criminal to cast magic. How Does It Work?
Unlike what most believe, Arcane Casting isn't manipulating the environment or its magic to create spells, but ritualistic prayers to the deities of The Arcane Court. The mana used in infusing the runes are sacrifices to them, and the specific rune pattern is a message to the court on what spell you want to summon.
