Seeding of Mountainrun

A century after The Founding of Elvine, the barren and windswept expanse of Mountainrun began to shift. Where once jagged cliffs and dry valleys stretched endlessly, the first hints of green emerged—small groves of silver-barked trees, creeping vines that wove through stone, and flowers that shimmered beneath the moonlight.

This quiet but steady change marked the beginning of what would come to be known as The Seeding of Mountainrun—the slow and deliberate transformation of the land, led by the elves who had chosen to abandon the arcane towers of Lumispire in favor of harmony with nature.

The Whisper of Leyara

At the heart of this endeavor stood Calen Theriel, the founder of Elvine. In the decades following the exodus from Lumispire, Calen and his followers—now calling themselves the Glenfolk—dedicated their lives to breathing new life into the barren lands of Mountainrun.

The Glenfolk believed the land had not been forsaken, but that it lay dormant, waiting for the right hands to stir it awake. Calen often spoke of Leyara, the goddess of magic, whose influence they felt not in grand displays of arcane power, but in the quiet growth of root and leaf beneath the soil.

"The earth remembers her touch," Calen proclaimed. "And so we must remind it, one seed at a time."

The First Bloom

The Seeding began humbly, with Glenfolk druids and arcanists spreading enchanted seeds throughout the valleys and cliffsides surrounding Elvine. These seeds, infused with gentle magic, took root in even the most desolate places. By nurturing the land instead of forcing it to change through sheer power, the Glenfolk allowed the natural cycles to reclaim Mountainrun.

Key milestones of the Seeding included:

  • The Moon Grove (4880 BGW): A series of bioluminescent plants along the mountain paths that glowed faintly beneath moonlight, guiding travelers through the rocky terrain.
  • The Yonder Forest (4850 BGW): The first forest to bloom fully, its trees grown from seeds said to have been gifted by Leyara herself, a mysterious forest hidden deep within the mountains.
  • The Singing Springs (4820 BGW): A natural spring unearthed during the planting, its waters infused with faint echoes of leyline magic. The Glenfolk built their first shrine to Leyara along its banks.

A Land Reclaimed

By 4800 BGW, the Seeding had spread beyond Elvine, stretching westward across Mountainrun. The once-barren landscape had become a patchwork of forests, glades, and rivers. Wildlife returned, and the air thrummed softly with the subtle pulse of leyline magic awakened by the growth.

Despite this success, the transformation was not without opposition. The High Elves of Lumispire regarded the Seeding with skepticism, believing that true magic lay in shaping the world through mastery of the Weave. Some saw the Glenfolk’s work as an abandonment of arcane heritage in favor of simple earthly pursuits.

To the Glenfolk, however, the Seeding was not a rejection of magic—it was a return to the source.

"We do not shape the land as the masons of Lumispire do. We listen to it, and in turn, it listens to us." —Mirenna Theriel, daughter of Calen Theriel.

The Seeds of Legacy

Though the Seeding of Mountainrun stretched across centuries, it laid the foundation for what would one day become the heart of the Wood Elven identity. The Glenfolk’s bond with the land deepened, and as the forests grew, so did their connection to the Weave—not through power, but through reverence and patience.

By the dawn of the Age of Shadow (4300 BGW), Mountainrun stood as a verdant sanctuary, a testament to what could be accomplished when magic and nature were allowed to grow together
