Polymede

Polymede was a planet in the Sunos system. Warmed up partially by its star and partially by tidal heating from its moon Jullio, it contained a large collection of lifeforms. With the arrival of SpaceCorp cosmonauts and the founding of the Twelve Colonies, human expansion on the planet saw it amongst the best explored planets in the systems.

History

Life has existed on Polymede for the better part of 3 billion years, which means life was starting to grow here during the time that Argo was just entering its primordial geological age, which means that life here possibly doubles the age of life on Argo. It's exact origins are unknown, but the common belief nowadays is that the planet had their own extra-terrestrial visitors that created much of the foundations of the planet, much like the Old Gods on Argo did, but whether those were the same ones or a different set of deities entire is hard to uncover. Just like on Argo, it seems like these gods stopped showing themselves physically a long time ago, with local accounts unclear about the exact date. A generalised estimation would be that it happened between 2000 and 3000 years ago, which coincided with a mass extinction event which seems to be connected to the Amronu impact crater.

Between Humanity, Cixusians and the Ewuxi

The planet bore two sentient lifeforms, the Ewuxi and Cixusians. The Ewuxi (etymology: from modern Artarian"Ewux" = foreigners) are a tripedal species of horse-sized molluscs that live in large groups and tend to dig their settlements in vast trench systems that often lie near water and cover such as rocks and foliage, which they use to cover their otherwise open trench streets. They are by far the most well-spread of the Polymedians, with them being found all across the world.

Meanwhile, the Cixusians (etymology: derivative from the name Madhji Cixusa, SpaceCorp researcher who discovered the species) are a highly intelligent avian species that are found on the island of Knutshowen and northern Edmuramuru. They live in smaller, family flocks of between 8 and 32 members. They build large nest-houses in high places like trees and high on rocks. Just like the Ewuxi, they have a complex social structure with is reminiscent of early feudal societies. In times of trouble, the highest ranking flocks rallies all the flocks that have settled on his land, making use of rallying fortresses and permanent marching (or well, flying) camps.

The two species have a long history of both strife and peace with one another, with the state in the 7th century being that they are in relative peace with the Ewuxi, mostly due to the advances in iron working resulting in the easier armament of larger forces, which led to a landslide in power balances nearly globally.

With the arrival of SpaceCorp in 493 SC and the founding of the Twelve Colonies from the remnants of their 12 original motherships, the global situation was changed radically. Although the colonists settled a sparsely populated area on the peninsula of Aqel which only is accessible by the southern edge of the Equatorial Ridge, it did not take too long before the colonists expanded to secure various resources that are needed to retain their way of life. After various Ewuxi cities confederated into a so-called 'ulus' to go to war with the colonists however, the colonists, after effortlessly bombing their spearmen with incendiary munitions into oblivion, established the CEZ, the Colonial Exclusion Zone, a 1000 km area on both sides of the Twelve Colonies which were declared outlawed, with regular bombing runs continuing for 20 years until ending in a tense but respected peace.

The Deified Man

The Ewuxi view on the colonists changed much however since the days of that war, especially after Rradzipaxan priests started their missionary work among the Ewuxi. By 580 SC, the church had managed to convert three large parts of the Ewuxi population, forming the 'Eparchies', theocratic governments ran in theory by the Rradzipaxan Church, but de facto by the Twelve Colonies.
Successful as the proselytization efforts of the church proved however, it has not gone without their own fair amount of unique problems, chief among whose are the new heresies that the Ewuxi have popularised. They come in many forms, however the most common ones are the 'şenhulkans' (transl. 'those who are equals'), who belief that all mortals of the systems are equal under the eye of Holy Judh, as well as the second even more common heresy: the 'joʻartarhuşans' (transl. 'artarian exceptionalists'), who practically are on the other extreme, where they deify the artarians to the point of being divine and worthy of sacrifice themselves, which would classify as idolatry by church doctrine.
The church usually fights these heresies harshly to prevent them from expanding and becoming local doctrine, but partly due to the sheer lack of manpower, the size of Polymede and in the joʻartarhuşans' case the fact that the Twelve Colonies government looks quite favorably upon being treated as gods, it looks like the Polymedian Schism is only a question of time.
