Wolf

"Wolf isn't Hell. Wolf is the star Hell orbits."   ~Immozene Gegentot, Technocrat of Wolf

Wolf 1061

Wolf (Once known as Wolf 1061) is an M-class red dwarf star located about 14.1 light-years away from Sol in the constellation Ophiuchus. It is the 36th-closest-known star system to the Sun and has a relatively high proper motion of 1.2 seconds of arc per year.

The Backdoor

Wolf's original interest to humans was the discovery of the Backdoor. The Backdoor is a stable space-time wrinkle that has one end in the Oort Cloud and another in orbit around Vapula. This made the initial interest in Wolf primarily a military concern, with the strategic minds on Luna paranoid of the potential of enemies using the system as a bivouac point before massing a large scale invasion to the edge of the Sol System. The Backdoor is of particular curiosity because the journey from Sol System to Wolf is through Redspace, but the journey from Wolf to the Sol System is through Whitespace, which upends the human understanding of these two dimensions. Mathematical models haven't been drawn up successfully to explain the phenomenon.

Ancients Abound

The interest expanded to scientific and corporate significance when ruins were discovered. The first ruins to be discovered were sattelites in orbit around Vapula, one of which had been a fairly sizable space station. It was ruined beyond repair and subsequently dismantled, but the hunger for more knowledge led to expeditions onto all three of the planets orbiting Wolf; Vapula, Byleth, and Sydonay. All three of these planets contained ruins at scale implying an advanced civilization that no longer exists. No native life survived on any of the three planets, but terraforming efforts were successful and now all three are technically livable.

Geography

Wolf is a red dwarf star with three Super-Earth planets in orbit around it. A thin asteroid belt skims close to the star, and an ice debris cloud represents the outermost limits of the system.
