Excellence in Engineering

The father of the founder of FTG was John Fitch, revolutionary and brilliant Engineer. In his early life, he'd been a simple ship architect, designing engines specifically, but was eventually pressed into military service as an R&D Engineer looking for weapons to give humanity the edge against the Reptids. His initial ship designs were brilliant, but it was his torpedos that earned him fame and glory, much to his shame. 

They Made a Sound in Space

Using some of his early work studying the possibility and nature of higher (and lower) dimensions, he attempted to make an engine that could travel through these ultraspaces and come out the other side, either facilitating maneuvers that couldn't be blocked or perhaps even achieving instantaneous travel through spaces without time. What he initially accomplished was a singularity bomb that tore a tiny hole into Whitespace, pulling some of the matter and energy of that other place into realspace. The destruction of the testing facility caused Professor John Fitch to quip, "And that's why we do the experiments way the fuck over there."   The energies immediately exploded in every direction, causing a slight ripple in space-time that notably made a 'whump' sound in ships far enough away to survive being torn apart at the subatomic level. These Genesis Bombs were first deployed against the Reptids in the Battle of Mercury, when the tide turned against the alien invaders. While Genesis Bombs have gone out of fashion, Fitch continued to prove to be an explosive genius for the rest of his life, inventing ever more insane and unusual methods for causing things to explode. Notable examples include the Refined Tritium Bomb, the Starkiller Bomb, and the Planetcracker.  

Tampering in God's Domain, Possibly Literally

The same dimensional tunnelling technology that enabled the fall of the Reptids was refined and by the end of the Commonwealth, he created the first Fitch Engine, which traveled through the timeless void of Whitespace to achieve instantaneous movement. This process turned out to be fairly unhealthy and inefficient, and the technique was refined to eventually create the Fitch-Finnig Engine.  

Old Company, But What's New?

  FTG still makes engines, reactors, capacitors, and even full Starships, but what it's known for are its missiles, bombs, grenades, and warheads. When John Fitch's daughter, Hope, founded the company, she showed the genius of both of her parents in a wide variety of fields, and the belligerence of her pre-corporate adventuring career. While Fitch-Tarrago is known primarily for engines and bombs, it's also a large nanovirus supplier, a phamaceutical firm, and one of the few firms capable of manufacturing Bioroids and Necroids at scale.
