Scorpio Corp
“Efficiency is not a virtue. Efficiency is survival. Survival is profit.”
Overview
Scorpio Corp (sometimes derisively nicknamed the “Scorporation” by Saturnites) is the corporate arm and majority-owned subsidiary of House Campe. Where the house presents itself as pragmatic nobles fulfilling public duty, Scorpio Corp strips away the pretense: it is a profit-driven megacorporation specializing in public-private partnerships, paramilitary contracts, logistics, and manufacturing.
Together, Campe and Scorpio form a hybrid model—noble authority fused with corporate efficiency—that gives Saturn unusual dexterity in both daily administration and crisis response. Where Campe speaks for Saturn’s pride, Scorpio ensures the bills are paid and the jobs are done.
Origins
Scorpio Corp was founded during the Iapetian War of ’49, when House Campe was created to oversee Harpe Station and stabilize Saturn’s stretched defenses. To operate effectively, Campe required a civilian-facing apparatus: a firm that could bid on contracts, manage budgets, and scale operations without noble trappings. Scorpio Corp was born as that tool, and quickly grew into a powerful entity in its own right.
Though majority-owned by Campe, Scorpio Corp has minority shareholders across the Saturn system and beyond, embedding it deeply into Solar commerce.
Spheres of Operation
Scorpio Corp operates across a broad portfolio:
- Paramilitary Contracts: Through its PMC wing, Shaula Sector, Scorpio provides soldiers-for-hire. Their specialty lies in assassination, interdiction, and attritional warfare.
- Manufacturing: Production of critical Saturnite Equipment, from orbital defense components to office supplies.
- Logistics: The unsung core of Scorpio—fleet management, supply runs, and crisis logistics across Saturn’s moons.
- Facility Management: Everything from Harpe Station’s upkeep to Saturnite government offices can be traced to Scorpio contracts.
This breadth makes them nearly unavoidable in Saturnite life. If something functions efficiently on Saturn, odds are Scorpio Corp has its fingerprints on it.
Shaula Sector
The most infamous arm of Scorpio Corp is its PMC wing, known as Shaula Sector. Feared across the system, Shaula Sector is defined by:
- Marksman Doctrine: Their reputation as assassins comes from small-unit sniper teams wielding the Scorpio PS-45 Lunatoxon sniper-pattern gamma graser vortex rifle. Silent, lethal, and nearly impossible to counter, these rifles turn Shaula operatives into nightmares.
- Attritional Warfare: Shaula does not fight to maneuver or seize objectives. They fight to make enemies pay in blood. Even in defeat, they leave scars deep enough to sour victory.
- Drone Reliance: Unlike other PMCs that field synth-infantry, Shaula favors drones and ambush tactics. Their enemies are bled out slowly, one cut at a time.
Scorpio PS-45 Lunatoxon
The PS-45 Lunatoxon is the signature weapon of Shaula Sector:
- Design: A long-barreled sniper-pattern graser rifle with a rear-mounted disc, a bipod, and an SI-assisted scope.
- Scope Functions: Identifies organs/components, runs FFID checks, and compensates for environmental variables.
- Mechanism: Fuel blocks are annihilated in controlled picosecond reactions, producing gamma bursts focused by magnetic vortices.
- Effect: The result is a needle-hole entry that ionizes and destroys tissue along a fingertip-sized cylinder. Skilled operators can adjust focus to make damage bloom beneath the skin, delaying detection.
- Classification: Licensed at 0+M—far beyond the reach of civilian marksmen.
This weapon is not just a tool but a brand. The PS-45 has become synonymous with Shaula’s name, much like the longbow once defined English archers.
Relationship with House Campe
Though majority-owned by House Campe, Scorpio Corp is not merely a puppet. Its executives push aggressively for expansion, and its profit motives often clash with Campe’s more measured political pragmatism.
- To Campe, Scorpio is a tool—a lever to fulfill noble obligations and enforce Saturn’s sovereignty.
- To Scorpio, Campe is a shield—noble legitimacy to mask the corporation’s mercenary ruthlessness.
Together, they form a paradox: a noble house that is also a corporation, a corporation that masquerades as nobility.
Reputation
Among Saturnites, Scorpio Corp is both resented and unavoidable. Their efficiency has kept Saturn’s bureaucracy running, but their presence is suffocating. Detractors argue that Campe’s noble duties have been sold out to corporate interests. Admirers counter that no other house or firm delivers results like Scorpio.
Across the Solar System, Scorpio’s name carries weight: they are trusted contractors, feared mercenaries, and ruthless negotiators.
Final Assessment
Where House Campe embodies Saturn’s pragmatism and territorial pride, Scorpio Corp embodies its mercenary efficiency. Together, they represent a new model of power—noble duty fused with corporate profit, authority enforced not by banners and swords but by contracts and sniper fire.
