Hellezar

Detective-Komissar Hellezar Ilex Sherrinford-Helicon (a.k.a. H.I.)

“People think prophecy is some whisper from beyond time. It’s not. It’s pattern-recognition... sharpened until it bleeds.”
Detective-Komissar Hellezar Ilex Sherrinford-Helicon

Origins in the Spiral

Hellezar Ilex Sherrinford-Helicon was born aboard the deepspace megahab Boston, to the powerful Sherrinfords—private landholders and custodians of Sherrinford Tower, a vertical arcology nestled in the high-density stacks of orbital luxury. Gifted with an uncanny knack for data infiltration and signal manipulation, Hellezar first distinguished himself at age ten by hacking and artistically vandalizing a series of House Castaigne monitoring feeds. The incident, which left a string of baroque imagery laced with obscure neoclassical music fragments, drew the attention of House Helicon when their Psychovector Matrix flagged the precise signature and escalation curve of the attacks.

Helicon, under contract to trace and prosecute the digital intrusion, located the culprit—only to find a quiet, intense child already analyzing his own signal patterns to see how he was caught. Rather than prosecute him, Helicon bought out his family’s legal obligations and offered the boy something more valuable than forgiveness: a place. His parents objected out of pride, not attachment. That their son chose to go without hesitation wounded them more than he realized—but Hellezar never looked back.

The Child Prodigy of Helicon

Among the Helicon academies, Hellezar stood out not for his discipline, but for his precision. He viewed everything—warfare, politics, love, death—as datasets to be modeled, pressure-tested, and reduced. He devoured predictive theory, psychoevolutionary conflict models, and real-time intelligence analytics. Where others applied the Psychovector Matrix as a strategic tool, Hellezar applied it like a scalpel—an instrument of psychological dissection. His instructors called him gifted. His peers called him insufferable.

To Hellezar, the field wasn’t about enforcement; it was about proving the supremacy of prediction. The law mattered only as a system of behavioral incentives. Honor was a vector. Truth was a byproduct of compression. Every crisis he solved, every Terrorist he thwarted, became another node in his internal matrix—a proof that his models were approaching total fidelity.

The Girl, the Battle, the Anomaly

In 489 YAC, fifteen-year-old Hellezar was embedded with Helicon forces dispatched to the Makemake incident. He watched from the observation deck of the second wave as Haus des Drachen knights, outnumbered and outgunned, fought with suicidal valor rather than accept surrender and ransom. He had written them off as doctrinally rigid fanatics—useful in battle, obsolete in principle.

Then came the crash. A barely functional fighter slipped past Helicon’s orbital blockade and slammed into the surface. The Pilot emerged weapons-hot, mistaking the aftermath for an ongoing siege. To Hellezar’s shock, it was a girl—no older than him, emaciated from stress, and burning with purpose. He shadowed her as she searched the wreckage for her brother, expecting tears, panic, some primal breakdown. Instead, he saw something else: a transformation. Her posture changed. Her face hardened. Her grief crystallized into a vow, silent and precise. She recovered her ship, extracted her robot's cerebroid core, and departed with no ceremony.

She had been a child. She left a knight.
She did not match any model in his system.
He never quite forgot her.

The Komissar’s Appointment

By the time he earned the rank of Detective-Komissar, Hellezar had mastered not only the Helicon method, but its deeper ethos: entropy must be mapped before it can be countered. The Komissariat is tasked with rooting out politically motivated crimes across Human Space—crimes of ideology, conspiracy, sedition, and insurrection. Members are chosen not for passion, but for ideological sterility. Hellezar’s complete lack of political or moral commitment—aside from loyalty to House Helicon itself—made him the perfect candidate.

He approaches threats not by rooting out evil, but by identifying instability vectors. Populists, cult leaders, rebels, and True Believers all share one flaw: predictability. And he has made it his life’s work to watch them burn from the inside out. But among them all, one anomaly remains unresolved. One Knight-Errant who cannot be plotted, predicted, or purged: Sir Dawn Carpellon D'Janus des Drachen. And now, with her quest reignited and her delusion sharpening into crusade, Hellezar finds himself inexplicably drawn back into her orbit—not to protect her dream, but to watch it break on his terms.
