Belldale

A secluded farming town, Belldale is like a slice of Elysium on Kunnow. Due to a magic fountain which is blessed with restorative waters which heal wounds and causes crops to grow heartier and sweeter, the population of this town lives in relative ease, and chooses to distance themselves from the outside world. They are a happy little community which works together to raise themselves up higher each day. They hold frequent feasts, crafts fairs, and sporting events (duels are a favorite, since healing is on hand). They are a very friendly people, despite their distance and clear discouragement of visitors.

Demographics

About a fourth of the town is farmers, a fourth fishermen, and a fourth artisans.
The Church is the wealthiest group in town, followed by the farmers and fishermen.
The lower class of the town would be considered middle class by most's standards, as they are fed well and have good homes.
The town is mostly composed of humans, with a small community of halflings.

Government

The Town Council is responsible for collecting taxes, maintaining the city's defenses, and resolving conflicts. The Council is composed of elected officials: 3 from the farmers, 3 from the fishermen, 3 from the artisans, and 1 from the Church (If there is ever a tie, whichever side the Church is on wins). The city council taxes crop harvests and fishing hauls, in addition to taxing revenue from sold goods, since they provide the only export service in the town. They hold weekly meetings Monday at noon, where any may attend to have their problems heard by the council.
The Church is responsible for the upkeep and protection of the magical water fountain and the park surrounding it. They also cook meals daily for those who cannot afford food themselves. Townsfolk come out and pray during the distribution of food.

Defences

The town of Belldale hosts a guard of 30 men, including a retired knight named Gereminus the Wolf. A 10 foot cobblestone wall surrounds the town, with an iron-banded wooden gate. An archer is assigned to the top of the church tower to keep watch for trolls or goblins.

Industry & Trade

The majority of the population of Belldale are farmers or fishermen. The farmers grow primarily corn, apples, and wheat. The fishermen fish the swamp to the west.
The town is also home to Bottles and Beakers a potion shop that has some renown for specialty work.
A small portion of the population of the town are artisans, specializing in carpentry, fish bone carving, weaving etc.
All trading is handled by The Lumbering Tortoise, a trading company operated by a man named Doyle Sharpblight.

Infrastructure

A windmill sits on the top of the southern side of the dale. It is used to process their wheat harvest, and was constructed 8 years ago by a young carpenter named Henry Strongdream.
A small wooden bridge was constructed over a small stream that passes through the center of the dale, although it is not needed to cross. No roads lead to this village, although a small foot trail has developed along the most common route to the village.
The most impressive construction in the city is the magical water fountain in the center of town. It produces sweet water which carries magical healing properties and enhances the quality of crops. The fountain itself was a gift from the College of the Shattered Spire but Kevalin Strongdream, father to Henry, enhanced it by laying stone aqueducts from the fountain to the farms on the outskirts of town in 3054. This great creation allowed the farmers to easily water their crops with the enchanted water.

Assets

The magical fountain is considered the greatest treasure to the town, so much so that almost any member of them would give their lives to defend it.
In the basement of the town hall is the food stores, which stores enough preserved food to feed the town for a year. The town council keeps taxes collected from trading missions in the vault, which is located in the park by the water fountain. The lock requires 4 members of the council to touch it to open.

Guilds and Factions

The Church of Pan: The church is headed by Pastor Powell. The Church exists to lift praise to Pan for providing the Blessed Few with his fountain of regrowth, and to defend that holy treasure. An acolyte stands vigil -over the fountain at all hours. The Church also provides meals for those who cannot feed themselves.
The Town Guard: The guard is headed by Gereminus the Wolf. It is composed of 30 fighting men, and their headquarters is located across the main square from the church. They are charged with maintaining the law and order of the town, and defending her people from raiders.
The Artisan's Guild: The Artisan's Guild currently has no official leader due to Kevalin Strongdream's disappearance 7 years ago. Instead the three council members, Henry Strongdream, Jacob Silvertongue, and Richard Haverson lead the guild together, putting all issues to a vote. The guild serves as a place for the craftsmen of the town to exchange services, train, and export their goods from the town. The guild hall is located on the southern side of the town.
The Farmer's Guild: The Farmer's Guild is headed by Guther Harvest. The Farmer's Guild serves as a place for local farmers to exchange goods, hire laborers, and export their goods from the town. Members of this guild are considered those of highest standing in the town. The guild hall is located in the eastern section of town.

History

The town of Belldale was founded by a small group of farmers in the Season of Rebirth in 2954 P.C. They settled there after noticing that the soil of the dale was incredibly fertile. The hamlet grew in size as these founding members thrived, growing enough food to throw frequent banquets. This community was always blessed with bountiful harvests, drawing in more settlers. Despite all these facts, the town decided not to build a road to their community, figuring that they had enough food to keep themselves happy in their simple lives.

Tourism

The town receives few visitors due to its secluded location and the lack of roads. When people do come to visit the village, they are almost always someone of incredible importance.

Architecture

The houses of Belldale are constructed of cobblestone foundations and maple wood house. They are of Tudor-style, with white panels and raised maple boards along the trim. The roads of the town are paved with polished andesite squares. In the center of town there is a small park with a marble fountain in the center. A channel leads out of the fountain leading West, South, and East. On this square is the largest building in town, the Church. The Church is a Gothic style building. It's bell tower is the highest point of the town, and on it's top is a stand for the town watch. The Church has ramparts along the walls, and is topped with three gargoyles perched above the entrance. It has a large stained glass window depicting a blooming rose.

Geography

A grassy dale between a Mount Beth and a large rolling hill. A small stream cuts through the dale, originating from a spring in the mountains. To the South West is a swamp.
