Alkirk

Near the border of the Kendall Forest, Alkirk is well-known as a carpentry town, receiving felled logs that float downstream from Greatwood. Alkirk is filled with plenty of carpenters that ship wooden products down South or Northwest to the capital.   During the Supremacy's reign, Alkirk's carpenters have begun to lose business as the mind flayers' demand for lumber has increased. Majority of the lumber received from Greatwood is now simply loaded up onto wagons and shipped directly towards Tormod and Falstaff.

Demographics

Alkirk is mostly humans, with a large fraction of wood elves that had migrated out of Kendall Forest either long ago, or recently. Some dwarves and other races can be found on Alkirk's streets, but aquatic races such as the triton are nearly absent.

Government

Alkirk is run by a mind flayer officer that acts as a representative of the city to the elder brain that operates within Falstaff. While it's unlikely they hold any real sway over the city, there is a council comprised of 4 representatives.

Industry & Trade

Carpentry and wood products are a major export, including things like furniture, paper, and timber. Alkirk has reasonable weapon and tool manufacturers, taking up forged metals from the South and having craftsmen fix handles and shafts to the metal parts before shipping the finished products out to Tormod and Falstaff.   Unfortunately in recent years, the Supremacy had demanded that majority of wood be diverted away from being turned into furniture and instead sent Northwestward towards the capital, presumably for use in the illithid's construction schemes. Resultantly, many carpenters have lost business.

Infrastructure

Thanks to the Fairflow River on the East side of the city, there are plenty of watermills that utilize it. Alkirk is still relatively small compared to Thauzuassk's other cities, lacking much of the infrastructure present in other places, such as sewers and city walls. Even the roads in Alkirk are still dirt, with cobblestone only found in courtyards and other locations.

Geography

Alkirk lies West to the Fairflow River, a gentle river that flows South from deep within the Kendall Forest. The Southwest side of the city opens up into farmland, which then extends into the Hardgrass Plains. To the North lies the actual Forest of Kendall.

Natural Resources

While Alkirk itself isn't home to lumberjacks, it is home for many wood-related professions, just as paper makers, carpenters, and others. It receives felled logs from Greatwood, a child town that lies Northeast of the city, up the Fairflow River. Alkirk also borders the Hardgrass Plains, which provides excellent soil perfect for farmers.
