Report of the Mage Ardyn Frostgaze – The Creation of the First Golem

This report serves to chronicle a significant step, an experience filled with challenges and expectations. What began just days ago as a mere experiment has now brought forth something that offers both possibilities and questions.  

The Foundation – A Damaged Rune Armor

It all started with a Rune Armor that had lost its purpose over the years. The once precise magical engravings had faded, and its rune slots were irreversibly non-functional. Yet, this armor—crafted from the finest fish scales, once supple and resilient—still bore traces of the ancient magic that once inhabited it. This residual magic inspired our work.   We were unable to restore the original function of the rune slots, so we engraved the runes directly onto the surface of the scales. This type of engraving makes the magic immutable—an irreversible bond that carries both strength and risk.  

The Awakening – A Lifeless Form in Motion

After arduous work, we embedded the final control rune, meant to harmonize the structure of the other runes and set them into motion. It was a moment of tension as the armor began to stir. Its movements were jerky, mechanical—the Golem stood before us, yet it was far from perfect.   Its lack of control led to early setbacks. Plants entrusted to its care were crushed by its excessive strength, and animals that approached were endangered by its unrefined grip. It was as if the magic did not know how to regulate its energy—a flaw we now seek to correct.  

The Search for a Solution

If runes could enable not only movement and strength but also limitations, then it would be possible to control the Golem more precisely. Our experiments now focus on refining the magical engravings, granting it a degree of finesse. However, this is a complex endeavor, requiring both magical expertise and delicate precision.  

The Goal – A Tool for the Warm Zone

This Golem is nothing more and nothing less than a tool, created to work within the Warm Zone. It is meant to operate where we cannot—to tend to plants, observe animals, and maintain stability. We hope it will fulfill these tasks without disrupting the fragile balance of the zone.  

Conclusion

I remain cautiously optimistic. The Golem is far from perfect, yet its creation marks a first step toward a solution. Each new discovery brings us closer to our goal—to preserve the lifeforms of the Warm Zone while ensuring our own safety.   For the Chronicles of the Mages, Mage Ardyn Frostgaze
