Icewater

Gehe zur deutschen Version: Eiswasser

The Iceberry

The mages of Galdra preserve ancient knowledge that dates back to the time before the Exodus: a magical process through which they can breathe “life” into ice. From this enchantment grows a delicate plant that actually grows on its own and bears fruit – the so-called iceberries.   These berries are processed into a clear, transparent liquid known as icewater. Its taste is sharp and alcoholic, but almost entirely without its own aroma. Originally, icewater was used solely for medicinal purposes and purification. But its more indulgent side was soon discovered.

Important to know:

Icewater is never consumed undiluted. Its alcohol content is so high that even small amounts of undiluted icewater can be lethal. Because it has no distinct flavor, the danger is easily underestimated: it merely burns in the throat, without further warning signs. That’s why it is always diluted before consumption.

To refine it, the people of Galdra use various methods:

  • Adding flavorings: Such as algae, seagrass nuts, animal blood, or other strong ingredients
  • Storage in bone containers: Depending on the duration – from one season up to five years – the aroma of the container infuses the icewater to varying degrees
Some prefer the plain version: diluted with snow, flavorless, like water. In this form, it is affectionately called “Little Water” – a quiet companion on frosty nights or long marches.
