Preservation ⟮Branch⟯

Preservation is a branch of green magic. Casters of this branch are normally capable of also accessing its sibling branches, transformation and communication, and are unable to access any magic from blue magic or red magic. Like all branches of green magic, this branch's suffix indicates it is part of a related group of magic. As is the case with all branches of magic, preservation magic is divided into three main abilities, each divided into three tiers, all of which are listed below.

Sustain State

Main article: Sustain State
Basic use of this ability allows the caster to prevent an object from decaying in a process that makes the object act as though time is moving more slowly for it than outside of the effect of the spell.   Intermediate use of this ability allows the caster to prevent movement of the object it is cast on. This can prevent the use of many displacement abilities.   Advanced use of this ability can allow a caster to be nearly unaffected by most effects of the outside world while within the effects of the spell.   The main downsides to this ability is that the target of the spell is unable to do many things, due to the ability's tendancy to cause the subjects of its magic to become mostly motionless.  

Force Fields

Force fields are a mostly invisible walls of tangible magic which prevent specific things from moving through them.   Basic use of this ability allows a user to create a nearly invisible physical barrier which can stop physical objects as effectively as a shield. If enough force is applied to the barrier, it will shatter like glass, and the spell will end.   Intermediate use of this ability allows the caster to a dull green magic barrier that prevents specific magic from entering and affecting those within or on the other side of the barrier. This type of force field is not as effective against physical objects, however, it may stop some minor projectiles. The force field will shatter if enough magic has attempted to pass through or interact with it the barrier.   Advanced use of this ability will create a green special barrier which will prevent specified types of matter, entities, or magic from entering or effecting anything that is within or on the other side of the barrier. As long as this spell is being focused on, it may remain indefinitely.   Limitations are not always predictable, but are generally proportionate to the overall abilities of the caster, and how much energy is used when casting the spell. A barrier may be as brittle as tree bark, or as strong as steel. Special barriers may be able to prevent arrows from entering, but may be so complicated and include so many things that only a specific few things are allowed entry.  

Mental Stability

Basic use of this ability allows a caster to calm the mind of the target of their spell, which may be themselves, an ally, or a hostile animal. It cannot affect the target's memories or how they precieve their world.   Intermediate use of this ability reduces effectiveness of mental manipulation cast upon the target of this spell.   Advanced use of this ability is similar to before, but entirely prevents possession as well as mental manipulation from both physical and magical sources. This includes possession from a sylph, suggestion and charming from bewitchment magic, and the effects of substances such as alcohol.
