Devona

Devona (a.k.a. The Seer)

Devona (no known last name) is a human girl approximately 8-12 years old. She was discovered being held hostage/looked after by a group of mutineers aboard the Rogue Trader ship The Star Charter. The Mutineers were killed but Devona, apparently oblivious to the mutiny, was taken into custody by Amaris Nahara. After a mind-scan it became clear that her reent memory had been erased, and that she was being used as a pawn to frame Devrim Star for harbouring an unregistered psyker.   After some investigation Devona showed some psycana gifts, having prescient dreams that she struggled to interpret. Before the warp storm that left the Star Charter stranded in The Raakata System Devona tried to warn Nahara about it, describing a terrible wave that swept the ship away.   Once in the Raakata system Nahara took Devona under her wing and began giving her some training in using her limited psy abilities. Devona showed some aptitude for minor use, but she still continued to expereince prescient dreams, although they were muddled and of little use.   Once the Profectus (formerly the Lost Star) entered the region known as The Scrapnest Cluster Devona began experiencing an increase in both the frequency and clarity of her dreams, although she struggled to explain them to anyone in a coherent way. This may have been related to spending time near the Warp-Rift known locally as the Scylla Reef. Only a couple of weeks after entering the Graveyard Devoa suffered some sort of psychic "possession". Her face physically changed into that of an apparent adult male and her voice changed to a whispering psychic voice heard by anyone nearby. She said: "Beware the Slaver Moon,
“We are betrayed! Beware the Slaver Moon! Defend the Imperium...”
This psychic event lasted only a few seconds, and Devona seemed to be largely unaffected. However, shortly afterwards she insisted on taking part on a seemingly innocuous mission to assist a crewman at Storm Port, and while there directed the team to leave what seemed to be a dangerous mutant alive. That 'mutant' turned out to be the Astartes Azael Marralis who was being controlled via implants.    Devona was also able to help in the capture of Karoy Blue, who turned out to be a strong ally and led to the Inquisitor persuading the Sleastatt Noble Houses to join the defence of Tantalus. Unfortunately Devona's prescient gifts proved problematic as the Profectus was later destroyed with much of the crew aboard while trying to defeat the Hand of Coptek, stranding the Inquisitor's team aboard the hostile ship. Devona said that she had been attempting to change the future the entire time, but whatever she tried something bad still happened, she became disillusioned and felt that her powers were useless.   Devona struggled to control her gifts over the next few days, and as the Hand drifted closer to the Scylla Reef she became confused as to what as a dream and what was reality. While fighting for survival on the Hand, something changed for Devona after a warp-based shockwave of unknown origin passed over the ship.   Later Devona exhibited odd and almost random psy abilities but seemed more stable and ware of her surroundings that ever before. These odd abilities included allowing the deafened Darrius to hear while he was in proximity to her and apparently defeating many servitors using some sort of fire-wall to save a group of injured prisoners - It appeared to those that saw her that even her physical form changed a little, although whether that was due to the reality-altering affects of psycana is unknown. During this time she mentioned a future meeting with "The Man in the Mask" and that he was important, but she was confused by the fact that Darrius also took to wearing a mask after his horrible scarring.   After surviving the Hand and having time to recuperate on the Morning Star Devona apparently found ways to focus and channel her prescient abilities. In only a week she seemed to become more mature and confident in her own abilities, offering the Inquisitor's team advice on things that hadn't yet happened.   The Inquisitor's team decided to assist Azael on a dangerous course of action to attempt to cross the Scylla Reef - Devona was able to apparently peer into the future and scry the best chances of success. She was able to show Vorg where the faults were in the device he was going to need to make, and also provide information on what dangers they faced. After hearing that sacrificing Devona was the only way to succeed in the plan, Nahara decided to abandon the project. Devona revealed that she couldn't see anything in the future past the time when Orks reached Tantalus, she claimed it was like she was being forced to stop there, she believed that some outside force is trying to guide her visions to help find a solution, and she claims that so far, 'something' is being missed, and something bad always happens, despite all the possible futures she's seen. She continues to attempt to scry the future and find ways to help.   After several more weeks the Morning Star moves to re-join the fleet. During this time Devona has gained a reputation as a seer amongst the crew and has even further refined her abilities to see into the near future. This causes tension with certain members of the crew as psykers are essentially mythical beings of dubious intent to Raakatans.

Devona is a young girl, around 8-10. She is small for her age. She was discovered being held hostage, or coerced, by the leaders of a rebellion on board the Star Charter, since then she's been taken in by Inquisitor Nahara and has begun training as a psyker and assistant in the Inquisitor's retinue. She has recently experienced confusing and powerful visions of what might be alternate versions of the future, and seems to be experiencing uncontrolled bursts of psychic power.
