Warbeast

One of the five animals of war

This species of cattle originated in the harsh barren deserts of the *south*. They reach a hight of 2m20 at the withers, with the bulls being slightly larger than the cows. To adapt to the demanding environment, the warbeast is capable of storing water in fat on top of it's back, just like the way a camel does. Both male as female have 3 horns which they use to protect themselves. They travel in very large herds, ranging from a few dozen to hundreds of individuals. They travel large distances every day, to feed the many mouths in their group. They adapted to the desert heat by being partially nocturnal, able to function at night when traversing the hottest areas of the desert. When travelling at night they would search for shadow to sleep during the daytime. If there is no shadow, they are able to half-bury themselves in the desert sand, which would shield them from most of the sun. Another unique survival method happens when they are attacked; the oldest animal in the group charges at the predators, sacrificing itself for the younger individuals of the group, and taking down as many predators as possible during the progress.

&humans?

It was that last characteristic that interested the vesajan lords during The god-wars , who started to import the warbeasts on a grand scale. The animals would be trained into animals of war, with alot of emphasis on their former, suicidal, survival instinct. They would become fearless, able to break through formations with ease, uncaring for self-preservation. Not after long this cattle species would become one of the most popular tools of war, as they could be bought in large quantities for a fairly low price. Since the people of Theria only know this animal from it's use in the war, it was simply named "warbeast".

Undying beast

During the god-wars, Ylkr-aal experimented on the warbeast, creating what would become known as the "undying beast". This animal would differ from the original by being unable to feel any pain, and by, even after death, still being able to thrash around for several minutes. These mutated animals would be clad with metal armor, and a variety of weapons would be placed on or between the horns. On the battlefield, the beast would be driven into the enemy lines, where it would cause mayhem as they were very hard to take down. Luckily, after the ending of the God-wars, mankind did not have the know-how to maintain this subspecies through selective breeding, causing the mutation to slowly disappear from the bloodline.
