Pure-Blood

Pure-Bloods, also known as "Uman" in the ancient tongue, are a human ancestry with a rich, ancient history. Pure-Bloods are the descendants of the ancient humans that colonized The Everglade Realm over a thousand years ago. The ancients were powerful mages, their magic appearing in the nobility that exist today. Nowadays, Pure-Bloods populate the entirety of the realm, but their official homeland is now known as the Kingdom of Nouvelle, in the Rolinet Gardens of the realm's northeastern region.

Basic Information

Dietary Needs and Habits

Pure-Bloods enjoy a wide variety of cuisines, from large meat dishes to vegetarian salads. However, Pure-Bloods pride themselves on their vegetarian dishes over meat, though meat is often a compliment to herbatious cuisine. When preparing meat, Pure-Bloods prefer to use raw meats, such as raw fish and beef, while cooking poultry on skillets. Pure-Bloods are known worldwide for their dressings, in which the unique flora of Nouvelle allows Pure-Bloods to experiment with a wide berth of herbs.   Historically, the ancients preferred to hunt for their food, but after migrating to the Realm, the change in environment forced the Pure-Bloods to prefer agriculture, creating large fields of farmland specifically for crops. Many of the game once hunted by the ancients were no longer available in the Gardens, which is a major reason for this shift in diet.

Major Organizations

Perhaps the largest grouping of Pure-Bloods is the Kingdom of Nouvelle.

Beauty Ideals

Pure-Bloods are mostly fair-skinned and clean shaven, though centuries of intermingling has given modern day Pure-Bloods bushier facial hair and darker skin. Pure-Bloods from the Kingdom tend to place beauty in the skin of the individual, something that the standards made by royalty have long ingrained into the ideals of beauty. Women are considered more attractive the paler their skin and smoother their skin. Women tend to conceal their blemishes with make-up, often giving them an albino look. As for men, lithe and limber men are more attrative then buffer, larger men, which is synonymous with labor slaves and servants. Men tend to only worry about their cardiovascular health over their muscle mass, which has lend the Kingdom to the unique position of needing muscular men for labor, and thus the desire for menial slavery.

Gender Ideals

Like most humnoids, Pure-Bloods see gender as a binary: men and women. However, the ideal look of men tends to lead them towards androgynous looks rather than more masculine looks. This could also be the result of a history of a predominantly matriarchical system of government. However, the Kingdom has since faded the matriarchy in favor of the patriarchy, though the androgynous look for men is still preferred and usually sought after by royalty and nobility alike.

Courtship Ideals

The age of maturation is fifteen, meaning any person wishing to have a legal occupation and own licenses must be at least fifteen years of age. However, when courting another or arranging a marriage, the would-be groom and bride can be as young as twelve, which is the age most children are officially intriduced to the responsibilities of nobility or royalty. However, one cannot get married until both parties are at least twenty years of age, something that survived since the days of the ancient Pure-Bloods.

Relationship Ideals

Because of the androgynous looks of attrative men, feminine traits are considered attractive by all. While two women cannot court each other in marriage, the law does not prevent two women in a romantic relationship. However, it is still socially frowned upon to engage in homosexuality in any way between two people. Because the Pure-Bloods put such a large emphasis in family names, engaging in acts that oppose such an idea are not well received by others.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Pure-Bloods primarily speak Nouvellasque, a language spoken primarily in Nouvelle. The dialect spoken in the Kingdom is standard and is considered accentless. However, as Pure-Blood communities are numerous across the realm, several dialects have come up that have been increasing in count. Nouvellasque spoken in the deserts of Sekte are harsher and have more pronounced gutteral pronunciations, while the Nouvellasque spoken in the northern regions of Pennavaca have differing slang terms and idioms unique to the region.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Pure-Bloods celebrate three holidays throughout the year: the Blooming during Spring, the Harvest Festival during Autumn, and the Communion during the Winter.   The Blooming is a massive festival typically held in the Kingdom's capital city that celebrates the first day of Spring and is organized by the Church of Chauntea and Eldath. The ancients saw Spring as their reward for surviving the harsh winters of their ancient homeland, and this is something that survived to this day, though many other races and cultures also observe this custom.   The Harvest Festival is something unique to the Kingdom of Nouvelle, though this is also something seen observed by the ancients, too. Autumn is usually hunting season, so hunters would sell their meats, while gardeners would sell their crops at the same time. Because of this convenient timing, the week the two sides sell their products lead to a large feast and is observed by most families. The larger the feast, the wealthier one's family looks to guests. Thus, the capital of the Kingdom would be home to the largest feast of the year, provided by the Royal family.   Finally, the Communion is mostly unchanged from the way the ancients celebrated it. Because the winter is a harsh time for everyone, the act of giving others gifts so that everyone may survive is something that still persist to this day, though the reason for the giving has changed drastically. Nowadays, people dress in more vibrant colors, trees are decorated with ornaments, and people gather together to sing carols in the streets for all to listen to. The festival lasts for twelve days leading up to the 25th of Magus, in which the people gather together in churches and cathedrals for the holy feast, which is called "Communion". This is a reminder for the people that Chauntea will still provide for the people so long as they survive the winter. This is something celebrated by all Pure-Bloods of every community, and is the only festival that is celebrated by the majority of them, no matter the distance between them.

Historical Figures

Major historical figures of Pure-Bloods include, but are not limited to:
  • King Lucas IX of Nouvelle, the current king of Nouvelle.
  • Angelo S. Tapang of House Luxina, the current Count of House Luxina and ruler of Luxina County.
  • Salvador Tapang, the former Count of Luxina who went to great lengths to disinguish the family before the crown.
  • Alain Souchon, current Viscount of Luxina and Chapter 2's main antagonist.
