The Everglade Realm
Across the Abyss of Gilvern to the West of Andova lies a large continent of diverse climates, wildlife, and cultures. The Everglade Realm was once a mysterious frontier during the Age of Discovery thousands of years ago, a land mired with dense mana and covered in an uninhabitable miasma of faerzress. However, the High Elves of Yggdrasil had discovered the means to deal with the manaplague, dispelling the cursed shroud and bringing nature back into balance. However, the scars of the old curse have forever changed the region, giving it a distinct and unique atmosphere for spellcasters and creatures capable of weaving mana into spells. Dragons have called this land home for many years, monstrosities are a common sight during the night, and many large cities that have since been erected from the ground teach magic and encourage the advancement of the arcane.
It is currently unknown what caused the manaplague, but many Elven scholars believe it to be connected to the World Serpent, known as Midgardsormr by the Elves. The serpent brings about death and decay wherever it goes, and the shroud of faerzress is believed to be a remnant of the serpent deity's reign over the region in millennia past. Others think it may have resulted from powerful magics draining the land of mana too quickly for it to recover naturally. Others still hypothesize that the manaplague was the result of forced alchemical synthesis, which can bring about all manners of horrors when ignoring the laws of equivalent exchange.
In the modrn era, the civilizations that call the Everglade Realm home constantly fight against each other for territory, and they even fight against the very land itself for control. Despite the manaplague's dispertion, several regions have since been covered once again by the cursed shroud, which threatens to spread and cover the whole of the land once again in faerzress. In particular, the Canyons of Athebasca in Sekte have deep abyssal scars that run deep into the earth, which faerzress springs forth from like a geyser. In the rolling hills of the Rolinet Gardens, there lies a lake aptly named "Death Lake" where faerzress has slowly assimilated itself into the waters, mutating the marine like within as well as the land beasts that prey on the marine life.
The sea surrouding the continent is abnoramlly dangerous, something scholars believe to be a by-product of the manaplague. Most of the sea creatures in the oceans surrounding the realm are infested with large leviathans and marine abberrations evolved to take down and scuttle ships that attempt to enter their waters. Several legends have since sprung up from the locals, indcluding the legend of the World Serpent, as well as the King of the Sea, Poseidon. These are often tall tales told by sailors coming to and from the continent, but some accounts have said the beasts to be real. Whether fact or fiction, the Abyss of Gilvern remains as the most dangerous body of water in Tempesta, accouting for the largest amouts of reports of missing ships and ghost ships.
Geography
The Everglade Realm is a continent as diverse as the wildlife. By the Western coastline lies the largest mountain range on the continent, stretching from the Northern regions of Nanök down to the Southern shores of Gattica. The largest country in the West is Ebria, a human settlement built into the mountains with Dwarven aid. Further towards the center lies badlands and arid deserts of golden sands. The sandy deserts of Sekte leads to the arid badlands of Borv'aighar, which the Sea of Ghosts caps. Past the mountains beyond Borv'aighar are the savannahs of Kasai, and by the East coastline is Kustra, in which lies the Great Plains of Ninazu, which is filled with navigable rivers that serve as important trade routes to countries further inland. North of Kustra lies the temperate forests of Nouvelle past the mountains of Belmur, and further North lies the tundra nation of Pennavaca. In the South lies the Swamp nation of Buk-Tharia and the Jungle nation Dal'ama.
Rolinet Gardens
Main article: Rolinet GardensThe Rolinet Gardens is a region located east of the Everglade realm, directly above the savannah of Kasai. The Rolinet Gardens mainly consists of sprawling rolling hills bordering the Kasai river to the south, and beautiful, lush forests in the north and by the coastline. The major rivers that flow from the mountains are the Creux River and the Sanguine River. The Creux is famous for its wide banks and wild rapids, while the Sanguine is infamously known colliquially as the river of death for its vibrant red coloration due to the presence of certain minerals like iron foud in the clay by the river banks.
The Rolinet Gardens is home to the Kingdom of Nouvelle, a properous nation born from the pilgrimage of the Pure-Bloods that have migrated to the Evergalde Realm from their ancestral homeland of Tigaux. Nouvellasque is the primary language spoken in the kingdom along with Common and is most often used in the kingdom's capital city of Draciennes where the royal processions and royal assembly is often given in the native tongue.
Outside of Nouvelle, smaller settlements have appeared, but the most notable are the Gnomes of Yak'Tel, found in the Amber Plains of Western Rolinet, which have fertile soil and freshwater lakes. The gnome community in Yak'Tel has grown to be well over 500, making the settlement a mid-sized village in human terms. To gnomes, Yak'Tel is considered to be a massive city and many gnomes visit to sell wares and exotic goods, making it a central hub of trade between gnomish merchants, which in turn makes Aramoor City, a city in Luxina County in Nouvelle, one of the largest trading hubs in all the Realm. Trade in the Gardens must always pass through Aramoor, and because Nouvelle separates the rest of the realm to the northern regions of the East, it essentially controls the only trade routes between the two regions, which allows them to increase taxes and employ rulings that favor the city over the merchant.
Ecosystem
While the biodiversity of the continent is complex in its systems, the eponymous glade that lives in the center of the continent provides most of the mana the land requires. The Everglade is an ancient natural landmark with the remarkable ability to expend mana in exchange for
Localized Phenomena
The faerzress that once plagued the land had born many strange magical phenomena unique to the Everglade Realm.
