Melissia

The Golden Village

by Nestor Alren
Melissia is old and yet new. It is an ancient village in Eastern Myrea that has been destroyed and rebuilt an uncountable number of times. There is no clear record of the attacks and destruction it has endured, other than the word of mouth of the survivors, and recent pictures of the ruins, prior to its latest iteration.

Demographics

The village of Melissia consists of approximately a hundred or so people, from about ten families. They consist primarily of beekeepers and farmers, as they meet their other needs through trade.

Government

The Melissians are locally governed by their Village Council, who also maintain and run the local Temple. Beyond local issues, they are, of course, ruled by the Governor of Myrea, who happens to also be the King, Mikalos Tinscuil.

Industry & Trade

The maintenance of bees and production of honey is all the Melissians need in order to meet their expenses. Because of their bee husbandry, they also produce a significant amount of commercially available pomegranates, sunflowers, and sunflower seeds. The bees are kept by beekeepers in man-made beehives, nad while pollinating the fields and orchards, also collect pollen with which to produce their honey back at the hives. The honeycomb is then collected, purified, and either the honeycomb itself or the honey, is sold or traded.

Assets

The most significant assets of Melissia are the bees, and the honey they produce. Nowhere else has been able to replicate the success the Melissians have had with establishing bee colonies and producing honey. Thanks to their success, they also are prolific producers of food, and have large pomegranate orchards and sunflower fields. The rarity of these assets makes them extraordinarily valuable.

Geography

Melissia's location in Eastern Myrea puts it near the Penedare river, and yet, in a desert region. However, it is a known oasis, and is located near waterfalls, where the water drains off of the mountains and into the river. This water is utilized in their agricultural irrigation.
