Ambrosia
Perfume of Royalty
Ambrosia is known for its heavenly and unique scent, yet very few have experienced Ambrosia in person. As a perfume, it is already rare. Only the wealthiest Nemeans can afford perfume. But this scholar knows of only four instances of Ambrosia present in Nemea. Two, in the collections of the Athenaeum, and the other two, possessed by King Mikalos Tinscuil. It is rumored that Ambrosia is the favored scent worn by the Lady Xanthippi Danais. Another rumor has it that a bottle of it may exist on the island of Corlia.
Properties
Material Characteristics
A cloudy liquid, typically some shade of pink or orange, but can also turn brown, or attain a sparkling, golden hue. Because of its extreme rarity, it is typically contained in a clear bottle of some level of preciousness, that has a well-sealing stopper. Appropriate glass vials are made in Beleterra.
History & Usage
History
The discovery date of Ambrosia is unknown. For so long as we have record of it, it has been perceived as the pinnacle of luxury - something suitable only for royalty. It has always been understood to be a perfume, as its scent is more lovely than any other, often described as "heavenly".
Everyday use
Perfumes being the purview of the wealthy and the elite, no perfume could be considered in "common use". That being said, Ambrosia is typically used for its scent. However, it also has a lovely, if unusual, taste. It is not generally known to be consumed orally, but it could be, if not so valued for its scent.
The scent and taste are both sweet and floral, but from there, they begin to diverge. Where the scent is musky, the taste is woodsy and slightly spiced. Unlike the smell, the flavor would only appeal to a select few palates. It is rumored that King Mikalos enjoys the taste, but there is so little of it, copious consumption would be absurd. Nonetheless, the rumor persists. So we must ask ourselves, if His Majesty is consuming it, why? And how is it not running out?
Distribution
Trade & Market
The formula for production of Ambrosia is unknown. Therefore, it is too scarce to be available for trade. Members of the Athenaeum continue to investigate what the process might be, but at least one necessary ingredient continues to elude them. Moreover, it does seem to include honey, which itself is exceedingly difficult to obtain, considering the rarity of bees. Thus, the prospect for distribution is poor.
