Kriekenwald

Kriekenwald is a village located in The Martellite Empire. It is situated just south of the border to The Eiturwood, and in the past has been subjected to frequent raids from the elven population there. In recent times, Kriekenwald has been seen as a strong source of timber and metalwork to the Tredorn Duchy, supplying the war effort with vital resources. Kriekenwald is also known to be the home of Livtara Ostrow, one of the more prominent generals in Tredorn's army.

Geography

Kriekenwald is within a forested region of Martellia, surrounded on most sides by oak and yew trees. A large river cuts through the center of the village, the town center being situated on a small islet in the river. Several bridges lead in and out of the square, one for each cardinal direction. The mayoral hall doubles as the home of whoever is elected mayor, and is also situated upon this islet.

Wildlife

Kriekenwald is known to have a rampant population of wolves and boars. During the hunting seasons, many rangers go out in search of boar dens to provide food for the settlement.   

Trade and Important Facts

Kriekenwald's primary goods are timber and metalwork. Local alchemists provide a great deal of remedies for the locals, but the supplies aren't enough to sell to most merchants. A small community of druids nearby often come to Kriekenwald to seek protection from elven raids, so mercenary work is also in no short supply.  The local hedge wizard has taken young apprentices before, but few of particular note or talent. His efforts have, however, resulted in an uncommonly high literacy rate among the villagers.
