Summer Reading Challenge 2025

The Goal: 21 Articles

First, Aritcles read by request. I love showing some support and giving people a chance to ask for a specific article to be read.

1.
The Unbeliver's Handbook by kitoypoy - A fun and creative article by kitoypoy. It puts a cultural twist on the term, "unbeliever," which I really like.
2.
Vellus Venti by StillnessandSilence - This is a gorgeous article, highly recommend. An article of loss and memory and a man who exists as a gift to his love and remind others of their loss.

Then some randomly found articles:

3.
The Anomaly by Aldus Ken - A fun article that's also a great twist on the prompt, it follows it, but not in a very typical way. A settlement that was rebuilt several times... in this case, as a world spawn. It's also told through a first person narrator which makes it a more story like read than if Aldus Ken had simply laid out the facts.
4.
Passion of Honor by arawlins and chibiheidi - A short article without a lot of editing, possibly new writers. It hits a topic I really enjoy, so it was fun to read. A society secretly doing good, or at least, in their minds. There isn't a lot details to their actions, but this also looks like a very new world. So hopefully they will build on it more.
5.
Hazbuzan Syndicate by Chips Dubbo - A detailed article, but one I thought was well written. It was thought out and explained well. There are controversial principles to be sure, and in a very large and powerful organization.

Articles from A Subculture due to Social Change. A topic a like and I wanted to compare and contrast.

6.
Matrix Goths by Absinthe - I read this article based solely off the title. Fantastic. This appears to be a very new world, the article offers several little glimpses into what the larger would will hold. The Matrix is a virtual environment, though different from the movies, and there's mega corps and vampires. A urban/dark fantasy twist on a virtual reality story where the fantasy creatures reside in the real world would be interesting.
7.
Confederate hlaf-satyrs - I looked for the article that had the fewest views to heart ratios under one topic, and this one won. The article opens with a very large AI face, which I'm sure would turn off some, especially those who are against the use of AI art. I'm not a fan, but I started reading. The POV choice could be really interesting if written well, but this one is hard to read in parts. So, easy to see why this one wasn't a favorite.
8.
Intheri by cow2face - This one had one of the highest like ratios, one like for every third person. The page is basic, no fancy styling. The article is also a short quick read, which I suspect helped. Displaced people holding onto some culture and living primarily by the coast.
9.
Les Eclairs by - Another article with a high like ratio, but is a little longer than the previous one. This one was right up my alley topic wise, a dark story of orphaned children being treated almost as scape goats because of their parent's. It has really good use of the side panels to relay info and suggest additional articles, there's also a little tease at the bottom of more to come.

Had to give Mother Bunny some love. Check out: GoT

10.
A Tome Knight's Manifesto by SableAradia- Had to give a new article by SableAradia a read and some love, especially as someone who's a Tome Knight myself. (see Desdemona Rose... which is a WIP). Definitely suggest checking out if you want a great group to write with and get a little encouragement. An article about the document, with a link to it, but focuses on the impact of the article. Something I need to work on myself.

A ritual related to Agriculture - A prompt I started and never finished. But came up with a plant for it. More comparing and contrasting.

11.
LemnoCultivation by Wordigirl - WordiGirl always has interesting articles and I had to read at least one of hers. Her world is more science than magic and it shows with her ritual. It's research and then convincing the masses to accept their research. Convincing and a seemingly a little bit of doing what they want.
12.
The Industrial Druidic Order Annual Fertility Commencement by irpguardian - Chosen because the title was interesting. A short and to the point blurb that alludes to more interesting things about the world beyond the article. It talks about Druids, who have become the sole source of soil fertility in some places, and how being relied upon to that extent has changed how they operate, from kindly individuals to industrialized.
13.
Blooding the Soil by Moonlight Bard - It is exactly what the title says, but in a way that I imagine most people wouldn't even consider based off the title. Not a ritual for people uncomfortable with blood and gore. Enjoyed the article, am glad I don't have to participate, haha
14.
Dance of Verdent Offerings by CraftyDM - This article caught my eye because it had over 100 views and only one heart. Like another article I saw with a similar low number of hearts to reading ratio, it starts with a giant piece of obvious AI art. However, I've seen loved articles with the same thing, so it's not a automatic dislike machine. The article could use some editing however. There was a nice touch of pointing out that villages put their own spin on it.
15.
The Ceremony of Sleeping in Mushroom Shade by StoryArcs&Subplots - Read because I liked the title, unlike the blooding the soil article above, I would happily join in this ritual. Relaxing in a field of giant mushrooms and doing some special embroidery. Feels peaceful and meaningful.
16.
Ode to the Mangosi by Ximily - Another title that caught my attention. This article showed a great progression of culture and change. A ritual to appease fairies, that were more lore than reality, that became a special day of celebration.

Transport of Tomorrow - LoFi Spirit City's train DLC came out and I decided I needed to read some vehicle articles since I'm that weird level of geek.

17.
Nudibranch by hughpierre - I saw the title and clicked on it instantly. It's a very short article without a lot of description. Though there is some there to give you an idea of what it might look like, along with the name. A start and I hope the author goes back to build it up a little more at some point.
18.
Aether Train by make lore, not war. - I am happy I found a train article. I have read Make Lore's articles before and they always put a lot of work into them. A phantom train and a static sidebar, which was a really neat touch. There's some great formatting through out without it being overdone.
19.
Horse by Rumengol - Of course I had to click on an article titled only, "Horse," on a prompt about vehicles of the future. I'm glad I did. A short and fun to read article about how horses are your best bet during a zombie apocalypse. It didn't have any hearts, but I left one and thoroughly enjoyed it.
20.
S.S. Messiah by Jack F. - After the Horse article I wanted something else that was fun. The title of this one caught me. It wasn't funny, but it was a topic right up my alley. A world of gods and demons with some alt Christian lore, or at least it appears to. I definitely find that sort of thing interesting as someone who will, eventually, write more in my own Alt Christian/religion world. Though it's short, I can tell the author did some homework and put thought into his world.

Finishing the challenge!

20.
Steam Engine by Isaac A. Thompson - I logged on to grab my last one, and I had an update letting me know George Sander's had posted his Short List . So, it was easy to look for the last one. Also, check out his list for another set of articles. Since I was still on my train kick (thanks to Spirit City: Lofi) the Steam Engine seemed like a good click. This steam engine is used in water bound vessels instead of track bound, but I'm still happy I grabbed it. The author makes their own art and I liked seeing a piece of original art first thing. It's digital art, but it almost has a textile look to it. It's unique and I like it. The article focuses on the world impact, which is still limited, instead of writing something technical. It's short and interesting
