Axe of the Moon
(a.k.a. Saoirse (ser-sha))
One unexplained result of the Event is that each of the two merged worlds brought along its moon. This, of course, had a rather traumatic impact on the planet itself just at a time when magic was spreading to the World of Science. So was born the Axe of the Moon from pent-up beliefs, the haze of uncertainty, and a need to focus blame.
Saoirse (ser-sha), as she is less formally known, is unquestionably the creation of conflicting ideas. Borrowing heavily from her World of Magic counterpart the Pale Maiden, she looks (and acts) younger, and more brash.
Several aspects of her appearance give clues to her World of Science origins. Hair of flamboyant red contrasts heavily with the Maiden's moon white. "A flame burning brightly in the unreachable desolation," it very much mirrors her description in ancient Celtic song. And unlike her counterpart, who works tirelessly if unsuccessfully to present grace, Saoirse relishes in her disheveled appearance. Her curly mane flows over the battleaxe strapped to her back while her fur tunic and skirt leave little to the imagination.
Even Saoirse's memories are a mix of the Maiden's and the long-held ideas of her most faithful followers. This is unsurprising given that the Axe of the Moon appeared at that time when the Maiden was missing. Years of unanswered prayers fell to the newborn goddess's feet and played no small part in the diety we see today.
