Who is Varethra Featherstar?
Surprisingly, there is a lot of information about him. Although this information is spread chiefly by the members of the Pilgrims of the Ceaseless Flight, the religious order he founded.
To the best of the historians’ knowledge, he was born in Thalloren, in one of the first nests that were founded after the valturo arrived at the Cutter after their great migration from their ancestral home in the Eyrie. Since he was a small chick, his parents raised him to be a member of the Divine Scavenger. Maybe this early fanaticism is the root cause of what was thought to him in the most elite school of the church of the Divine Scavenger, in The Root, just wasn’t enough for him. He didn’t even finish school because he frequently got into arguments with his teacher, which sometimes became aggressive, and finally, he was expelled from school.
He always had a charismatic personality, so when he left the school, many of the other students followed him, and they founded the Pilgrims of the Ceaseless Flight religious order. He was pretty handsome too, and based on the many gossips, he fathered many chicks among the Pilgrims. As a somewhat positive action, they didn’t take the chicks with them during their flying, but they put them into orphanages, and later, the community around the order raised them.
What are his tenets?
He accepts that it was the Divine Scavenger who led the valturo to the Cutter. But he believes that the Cutter was just a stop on their journey, and they need to continue to fly, because their true home is in the skies. If someone argued that the valturo lost many souls during their great migration, his counterargument always was that the valturo only needs the strongest and fittest, and they just need many chicks to keep the valturo population on a healthy level. He practiced his teaching frequently during his school years, because he would rather just fly instead of learning, and based on the same gossip, there were quite a few valturo female students who had to leave the school prematurely.
His current life and lifestyle
Many things can be said about Varethra Featherstar, but he abides by his tenets. Nowadays, he is just flying and flying, like the Divine Scavenger did when it was trying to find a new home for the valturo. He has flown to all the known parts of Tacillia. He tried many times to find new places west of the Cutter, but every time the never-ending ocean greeted him.
