Who is Oranvek?
Oranvek is a toy maker, famous for inventing and creating the new type of puffets. He never thought that he would do anything significant. He was one of those valturos who had the thankless job of flying as high in the Cutter and filling the animal skins with topair to create the puffets. Flying up and down daily is a very exhausting activity, but somebody had to do it.
How has he gained his fame and been deemed a genius?
Of how genius he is, that is up for debate. Based on his previous boss’s comments, although he always performed his job admirably, he was always on the lookout for ways to make his job easier and quicker. Probably, when he invented the new puffet, it helped that he was a little bit lazy, in addition to being lucky.
When his memoir was written, he deemed himself lucky to have discovered the new type of topair, which is essential for making the new puffets. On that day, filling the puffets was very tiring, not just for him, but for his workmates too. On one downward flight, he set down to rest a little bit. He noticed that one of the larger rocks was moving from time to time, as if something was beneath it, and it wanted to push the rock upward. He also heard a hissing sound. When he examined it, he saw that some kind of gas was coming out from the ground. For some reason that he couldn’t describe – in his memoir, he is saying that maybe the Divine Scavenger guided his hands – he let the air out of one of the animal skins and filled it with the gas. Immediately, he felt that this was something new, because the puffet wanted to fly up in the air. First, he thought that it would be a helpful tool to help him and his workmates fill out the puffets, but on second thought, he realized that there are many tasks other valturo want help with where this new gas and new puffet can be of use.
He closed the hole in the ground, so none of the gas could escape, and filled the animal skin again with regular topair, so nobody would know about what he found. The next day, he quit his job, started his own company to make the new type of puffets, and the rest is history.
I’m sure his voice was as squeaky as everybody else when he first inhaled the gas
