Races of Syann: Gnomes

Gnome where to go   When the Fey-born peoples left the realms and lords of the fey seeking the freedom of mortal souls the Noum were less willing to cut connections to their fey magic and even as they accepted mortal free will and soul clung to elements of their fey nature stronger then had Elf, Dwarf or Ghoblyn. The resultant creatures were the first gnomes. Innately magical beings who by magical threads of a sort were still connected to the fey realms.   Gnome Way Home   The Gnomes soon came to discover that their connection was not strong enough for them to walk between worlds as they once had and this fueled a widespread cultural interest in knowledge. One of the first Dragon Tablets containing lost magical lore was uncovered by the early gnomes and played a large role in their devlopment and knowledge sharing of early magical development. The Gnomes were at first happy to work with and share with the other fey born and even stood with them against the Titans. It came as a sad surprise when the first Ghoblyns tried to conquer all of the feyborn but the gnomes stood their ground with the Dwarves and Elves and to the happy pride of the gnomes managed to keep peace between them and drive the Ghoblyns away so they wouldn't be a threat to their peace. Syann was the home of the gnomes and their friends among the fey-born now and the Gnomes wanted to understand everything about her.   Gnome Curiosity goes un-wasted   The Gnomes were the first to spread far and branch off into various sub-cultures and not for the reasons one might suspect. In the very soul of nearly all gnomes lays equal measure of curiosity and obsession. Since the first Noum set eyes upon the material realm they held a longing to explore, a desire to understand and a deep love for the things they had passion for. The Gnomes have not deviated far from this and it was this that caused the first gnomes to divide. The gnomes who would become the Gnharneblin loved the forested hills and natural world, while skilled miners and comfortable below ground they had preferred to be nearer to the surface world they longed to understand. Meanwhile the Svifneblin ancestors loved to mine above all else and gazed upon the deep earth, its alien life, abundant gems and strange magics with absolute wonderment. The two agreed that each of them desired something different and separated into the first of the two elements of the Gnomish peoples. This desire for large gatherings of gnomes to dedicate themselves to certain areas, regions, ideas or concepts of study being the basis for nearly all the divergent elements of the larger mosaic of gnome cultures. Even today most gnomes see the divergences more as different "fandoms" as opposed to wrong, weird or unacceptable in their choices. Point in fact few if no gnomes regret that their people have spread as far, wide and divergently as they have only that in some cases they have lost connection with them and the larger gnome family.
