Common Etiquette rules

Meetings among the common are done with a handshake. Deals are often sealed with a handshake as well.

Meetings with nobles or royalty involve bowing on the part of those of lesser status and an inclination of the head for those of higher status.

Common Dress code

Men wear belted tunics that reach mid thigh over thin trousers with leather shoes. In cold weather they will add a shirt beneath their tunic, wear thicker trousers or wrap their legs, a ruana cloak, and exchange their shoes for boots.

Women wear simple belted dresses with a bottom hem about a foot (30 cm) from the ground with leather shoes. In cold weather they will add a shirt beneath the dress, wear trousers or leg wraps, wear a ruana cloak, and exchange their shoes for boots.

The men's tunics and the women's dresses are the signature symbols of their region. They are made of wool or linen and their "best" set will be embroidered around the head and arm openings as well as on the bottom hems.

Wealthy members of society wear similar outfits highly embroidered on the tunic/dress with smaller embroidery on other pieces of their clothing. Additionally, the fabric will be made of finer forms of wool and linen or imported fine fabrics from other regions.

Art & Architecture

Architecture here involves castles of stone and houses of wood. Very stereotypical medieval/fantasy style. There are also carved stone and wood embellishments outside of a home. Embroidered tapestries are a common art form inside fine buildings.

Instrumental music and singing are very common here. Many great musical works have multiple parts woven through each other to play or sing, but people also enjoy songs with a strong melody that they can all sing along to.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Meals involve fish, vegetables, and bread. People who do not live near a river will eat meat instead of fish if they can afford it.

Males are dominant in this culture, though women have rights and can own property if they are the sole inheritor of their family.

Coming of Age Rites

Some time after a child reaches the age of 16, a party is thrown by the family in their home or a local gathering place. The party is a time of joy with tales told, songs sung, and food consumed. At some point in the party, the new adult is presented with a simple gold ring to signify their new status. It is worn on the middle finger of the right hand. Coming of age ceremonies in small villages are often done when the child reaches the age of 18 instead.

Common Taboos

Children are not allowed to practice magic.

A person is not allowed to marry someone who's skin color is too close to their own. A priest/priestess of Krysan is called on to judge in cases where there is a dispute.
