Aglasi

Aglas is a young country that is home to Ahsness, Humans, and mixes of the two races. Originating from Orbican and Zelic ethnicities, the country has begun to blend the two cultures and create customs of its own.

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

Aglas is a relatively isolated community that cares well for its own, especially the elderly. Craftsmanship, good harvests, and excellent cooking are all valued, but most well loved is a good story and their senior citizens seem to have plenty of those.

Common Etiquette rules

When greeting someone, Aglasi will extend their hands toward each other, palm facing to the side as if to shake hands but with fingers and thumb straight. Instead of shaking hands, both people press their flat palms together.

Common Dress code

As with the Zelic customs, most Aglasi do not cover their upper backs on a warm day so they wear halter-necked tops like the Zelic. However, not everyone has Patterned Back Scales so those who choose to leave their backs uncovered will have painted ink designs or tattoos on their mid to upper back.

Below the halter top, both males and females wear trousers and a wide belt. However, unlike the Zelic, female Aglasi wear more loose-fitting trousers. Most males & females wear leather shoes unless boots are more suitable to their tasks. Many people with hard-scaled feet go without shoes.

Wealthy Aglasi usually wear ornate belts decorated with metals and the fabrics of their outfits are finer. Affluent female Aglasi wear trousers that are voluminous enough to be mistaken for skirts.

Art & Architecture

Buildings in this region are made of stone, wood, or a combination of the two.

Fine art in Aglas is usually made of wood or metal. Carved wooden panels decorated with patterns or flowers are hung on walls, used as room dividers, or used on windows as shutters in most homes and buildings. Additionally, the Aglasi excel at metalwork and while apprentices spend a lot of time making nails and hinges, masters make exquisite jewelry and fine decorations as well as more functional items.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Meals are commonly made of meat or fish, vegetables, and fruit.

Elderly people are honored for their wisdom and the Aglasi ensure that their needs are met.

Strangers are welcomed, especially if they have a good story or two to share.

Common Taboos

Unlike in Zel, Patterned Back Scales may be covered without taboo in Aglas.

White flowers are associated with death and are never given as gifts.
