Personal history
Derrick was not an easy man to be friends with. He took offense quickly and often disrespected others, mostly while trying to impress them. He had few close people around growing up, and was a target for bullies. His only solace was his entertainment, his love of mythology and his imagination. Hoping one day either one of those would give him a better life.
He favored the Japanese people & mythology above all, and became overly attached to the thought of it being real. The chance at one of the myths being real, and him possibly being chosen to be something greater than he was, it took over completely. He felt he had a destiny to be different, something undeniable and completely alien to who he is now.
After years of research he found the reincarnation of Raiden, who had just been born. He offered everything he could to his watchers for a portion of his power. They refused so he killed them all, and transferred the godlike power into himself. Transforming into the Red Raiden, who's tried to turn Japan into his own personal realm ever since.
