Charlotte Baker
Summary
Charlotte is the matriarch of what remains of the Baker House. After a stunning set of political moves in the Dobby Affair that left the Bakers on the verge of Major House status, Charlotte's generation destroyed the House chances by choosing to drop out of the political fight, becoming (in order of age) a priest, a drug-adled waste, a casuality of Umbra, and perhaps most embarrassing, a panpsychist fanatic living in the Bailen woods. Charlotte was the youngest daughter, and took it upon herself to redeem the Baker name by marrying an ambitious tradesman and dedicated herself to the business and social responsibilities. This has largely been successful, and while the Bakers never reached the heights of their potential, Charlott's shrewd marriage and careful plotting have made them a solid Minor House and a strong ally of the Foracks. Charlotte has two children.Reputation
Charlotte carries a lot of weight. She gets a lot of respect for not being a fuck-up given how much of a mess the rest of her generation has done, but that also means that the British families scrutinize everything she does. The Bakers were ruthless in their rise in the Dobby Affair, and everyone watches the Bakers to see if there's any chance of that happening again. Charlotte is quite publically devoted to her children, and the general consensus is that she's done what she can well, and the next step for the Bakers is to have Charlotte's kids turn out well so the line can continue. Charlotte herself is likeable and accepted in society, but her determination makes her a bit stiff and she's not the most beloved or trusted Minor matriarch.Relationships
