Rockridge

Originally founded because of a deal between the leader of Leafguard and a dwarven mining company, the town exploded with eager workers as soon as it became evident mithril deposits were there and plentiful. With a consistent purchasers of raw ore in Leafguard, Rockridge has been able to thrive over the many years since its inception. With buildings well kept, roads paved, and even a fairly robust fortifications for a town its size.   Its is limited on the area it can build though. The original buildings were built on rocky slopes next to the Flying Sky river, to keep everything close to the mines. As things grew the leadership didn't bother to expand onto the flatter side of the river and instead poured more infrastructure into raised foundations, carved rocky roads, and multi-story buildings. Leaving all its inhabitants a bit starved for elbow room. With nearly 30% of its official population opting to live in small clusters of buildings outside the city along the flatter side of the river.

Demographics

Its origins as a dwarven company made town has greatly influenced its population compared to the rest of the Leaflands. With nearly half of the population being dwarven, with the rest being Leafland Human. Though because of the quality ore mined here, there is a smattering of other peoples who are attempting to capitalize on the wealth of the town. Which the majority of people have been able to do.   From merchants to miners, a good days living is not hard found in Rockridge. Even recently places of entertainment have been opening in town for the hard workers. Growing the economy of this prosperous town even more so.

Government

Like all other Leafland settlements, the town is overseen by an assigned Captain. Who is the final voice in all decisions in everything to defense, zoning, taxation, law, ect. The Captain answers to the local Warden who oversees the local area from a nearby city. This Warden can overrule any decision a Captain makes and even dictate certain goals towns and villages should be striving for. The Warden themselves answers to the region Commander, who has the same powers over them as the Wardens do over the Captains. There are three Commanders and each of whom are in charge of overseeing one of the three forests of the Leaflands. All of these people answer to the crown of the Leaflands, who is the defacto leader of the entire region.

Defences

A large stone bridge reaches over the Falling Sky River to the walls of Rockridge. At a height of 10ft and precariously perched alongside a rocky shore, the bridge is the only feasible way to enter the town. Several guard towers overlook the wall and are patrolled by a small brigade of Leafland soldiers. The walls themselves are laced with mithril and are extremely durable.    The town also has a guild of dwarven mercenaries called the Devil Dwarves on hand to deal with any pressing threat to the town and its people. Riding very mobile battlewagons, they are not especially useful within the walls. But they are the first devastating in the open fields. Leading to the guild and the town to adopt a very proactive stance to threats. Trying to nip them in the bud before they approach the walls. Threats dealt with by the guild range from rampaging monsters from the forest, to organized bandits.

Industry & Trade

The entirety of the town's trade revolves around the mine. Entertainment for the miners, lodging for people buying ore, artificers improving safety and efficiency, ect. The mine itself is east of town and a bit higher in the mountain ridges, but is not easily reached without using the main road that leads up and out of Rockridge. A constant muddy slurry pours out of the mine entrance thanks to gnomish water pumps. They are used to keep the mine air wet to keep dust down and clear out rubble in place of minecarts.   In town there are several places of business you should expect to be told about when visiting.   Doughy Delights A small shop owned by Heinrich Haarhoof. Professed to have the best fry bread and dough puffs in the entire city. The shop itself has a bar front that sticks out onto the street, allowing people to quickly swing by for a bite or sit down and enjoy a chat with the shops owner.   Gemstone Weaver The shop of the seamstress Luan Naude. She is very skilled in her ability to embroider materials with gemstones, and even has special service to work enchanted gems into useable beads without breaking their enchantments.   Unus Vault Bank Run by the confident and the bit brash Arno Thomas, the Unus Vault Bank & Exchange holds the vast sums of wealth Rockridge has accrued over the years. The bank functions regularly as a go between for people investing in the mines or those who need a third party to hold onto currency and goods while deals are being finalized. They bank also claims that it will "exchange any gem for its fair equivalency of gold, anytime, any day".   Onyx Wears Run by the extremely private Wilona Pienaar, Onxy Wears is the best place in town for those wanting hardy metal threaded clothes. She doesn't disappoint and rumor says the reason she is so good is because the Pienaar family has a secret method to thread metals into twine.    Grand Bordello of Wanton Courtesans Run by a sleezy man by the name of Stiaan Bosman. The Bordello, for short, functions as a place for the more rowdy and free spirited of miners to kick back after a long hard day or night to blow off some steam. Both with booze and company. Despite looking clean and posh on the outside, it is actually pretty run down inside as the management don't seem to care about repairing things broken on a nightly basis. Rumors say the Bordello has many "off the book" services available to its most loyal of clients.   Chuckle & Huckle Club A sort of experiment by the owner Lusea Voslea of the River Kingdom. The night club is exclusively for those who want to get up and try their hand at the art of laughter, making jokes, and generally making fools out of themselves for the benefit of the audience. Though Lusea makes sure to keep a couple of career bards on hand to preform each night, just to guarantee some enjoyment for her patrons. The place has been a surprise hit and the people of Rockridge regularly flood to it.   Dragon's Den Inn Run by a pale portly dwarf named Cyril Zeed of Clan Epee-D'acier, the Dragon's Den's claim to fame is it literally is the old forgotten den of a dragon. Old draconic stonework can be seen peaking out from the otherwise fully boarded walls and floor. Features that have been left in place to remind people of this place's history. The entirety of the inn is located within a cave system inside of town. Though a huge place, rumor has it Cyril didn't fully furnish the den and that there are places behind the walls that lead further down into the old dragon lair.
