Murphy Lawden
A burnt out and cynical detective. He used to be a full time detective with the Oracles and still has connections in the force, but is mostly focused on independent private investigator work. He’s solved his fair share of cases, but always seems to be down on his luck. He speaks very directly and is quick-witted in conversation.

Personal history
Murphy Lawden, also known as Murphy Law, is in his own words “just the guy you call when everything that could go wrong, did.” Once a member of the Oracles, Murphy found the life of an Oracle detective to be ultimately unfulfilling. There was too much procedure, too much red tape standing in the way of justice. People going missing, people being harmed or killed in pursuit of trivial, material things. It made him sick. For his desire to help ordinary citizens to make things right, he turned to private investigator work. Business is slow at times, but he keeps an ear to the ground and recruits people willing to help him with his work on an as-needed basis. In his free time, he plays billiards at local pool halls in Swing City or catches a baseball game if he has the chance. Someday, though, he hopes to write a noir novel; he’s gotten in the habit of narrating or thinking aloud the narration for his novels, monologuing when he thinks he’s alone.
