Milton Monroe (a.k.a. The Cabbage Man, Magic Milton)
Milton Monroe is an Olympian success story. Starting out with just a streetside cart and his family’s ‘Magic Cabbage’ recipe, he is now the owner of one of the most prevalent fleets of street food carts in the city. An Olympian staple as pervasive as the ‘New York hot dog carts” of old, “Magic Milton’s” carts provide simple but filling fare at very reasonable prices.
Milton himself is an unassuming older gentleman, who takes great pride in his work. All ingredients for this fleet of carts are grown or raised on his large farm in Demeter, and each cart handler must meet Milton’s own exacting requirements for quality and care. While Milton no longer mans a cart himself on a daily basis, it is still not unheard of for him to ‘drop in’ on one of his vendors, or even pitch in for a day. It does not take much to get him talking about his food or ingredients, and he will wax poetic about “His Cabbages” at the drop of a hat.
Milton’s philosophy is that everyone deserves good food at good prices, and has even been known to look the other direction if some of his carts give out the occasional meal for free. He’s a staple in the business community and advocates for an ethical, community focused approach to making money.
Hot water hot dogs
Sausages: One standard ‘hot/spicy’ variety, One standard ‘mild’ variety, and a rotating ‘special’ which is seasonal, experimental, or whatever else is interesting that day/week
Dogs and Sausages are served on a potato bun with a variety of toppings on offer, including sauerkraut and magic cabbage
Cup O’ Magic Cabbage: Warm wilted cabbage salad with bacon, onions, and white vinegar. Served in a paper cup with a disposable fork
Okonomiyaki: Green cabbage and onion pancakes served with a variety of toppings
Just the Cabbage, Please: Sliced thin wedges of fresh raw cabbage with a variety of toppings. Milton’s own brand of rich egg mayonnaise is a popular choice.
