Ghosts

The Ghosts are a raider group of which only rumor is known to outsiders. They strike silently and unexpectedly in small numbers. They target tech and resources more difficult to find in the wild.   Its founder, Bad McClure, had been a member of a now defunct raider clan lost to time. He envisioned something beyond mere survival for those living outside Olympia. Why should only those in the city benefit from the legacy of the old world? Upon finding the bunker, his vision could be realized. His splinter group learned the forgotten knowledge and tech within. That knowledge was centuries of refinement in the art of war. It didn’t take long for them to carve out their own foothold in the Wild. Elevating simple raiding to an art and extending their reach into Olympia proper within only a generation. While Bad was only able to live long enough to lead his people for about two decades, the infrastructure he put into place left a legacy that continues in to the present.

Structure

The Ghosts numbers are unknown to the outsiders, but they have about five hundred members total including non-combatants that provide support within the bunker and children that will eventually become full fledged members. As they became more aligned with the knowledge from the bunker, their organization shifted significantly from the splinter clan they originated as.   The battalion headquarters contains the senior leaders as well as support members that are responsible for coalescing intelligence, assuring subordinate units have supplies, and planning larger operations.   Three companies that each have six subordinate platoons are responsible for working relatively independently to further the group's interests. At any one time, there is a company assigned to the bunker to provide security and rest between longer field operations.   The platoon is the base organizational unit still quite capable with the assistance of LOSTech and the support of higher command for real-time intelligence analysis. These units are twelve members strong and typically carry out missions independently at the direction of leadership.

Culture

The Ghosts live up to their colloquial namesake by valuing secrecy, surprise, and a bit of theatrics. Rather than striking fear in Olympians with numbers or brutality, it’s the quiet precision and surprise that gives them notoriety.   Members take pride in their abilities given the size of their clan. Newer members are often challenged to show their skill by challenges from more senior members such as stealing certain items from enemies without being seen or obtaining new knowledge or tech beyond the parameters of the mission profile. Members rise through the ranks by proving themselves as leaders and warriors.   A Ghost has never been taken alive by the Olympians. When threatened with capture, they will use explosives to make themselves and any tech they may have unsalvageable. The risk of being interrogated would expose the secrets of their capabilities and location.

Public Agenda

Learning about and maintaining the LOSTech they have is a major driver of their raids of Olympian boroughs and occasionally other raider clans when they appear to have something worthy of taking. Obtaining resources to survive is a secondary one. The bunker that they use as their base of operations allows for a minimum level of sustainment.

Assets

The Ghosts biggest asset is their bunker and tech. While most raider groups are nomadic out of necessity to avoid horrors and other raiders, the Ghosts have actually been able to grow their numbers sustainably and improve infrastructure in one place. This makes them an obvious target for other raiders or Gatewatch should their secrets become known. Aside from their overt operations, they also maintain a small network of deep cover intelligence assets within Olympia.

History

The Ghosts started as a splinter group from a larger tribe about eighty years ago. While plenty violent, their general avoidance of excess destruction caused a rift. By dumb luck, they came across a bunker in the early days of their independence. The treasures within and their methodical approach to raiding left them a small but mighty force to be reckoned with. Over the years, that lethal edge has been further refined making them the tale of what goes bump in the night.
