Cora Barrett

Cora Barrett, the eldest daughter in the Bert household has cultivated an aloof and petulant persona. She fully expects to be married off with little choice in the matter. She is not fully aware of her family‘s financial standing, but it is mentioned several times that an advantageous marriage would be amenable to the family. One thing that she does not realize will impact this severely is her father's lack of ability to provide a sufficient gallery for her. Because of this, she makes other arrangements unbeknownst to her. She does not speak of her father's abuse of power because he has told her, that if she objects or tells her mother, he will shame her and disown her saying that she’s already done what he is manipulating her into doing. Although it is an unlikely story, because it would come from her father, it would be taken as truth. Cora's silence is her objection and goes along with her father's plan.     Cora is the eldest daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth Barrett. She was a carefree happy girl, till her father began hiring her out as a courtesan to help alleviate the family money troubles.
