Crimson Academy

Considered to be the training grounds of fierce heroes, the Crimson Academy is perhaps the most presitigious school in the entire scorchlands. Founded by the small fortune left behind by Ignis Finley after he went missing in action, the Crimson Academy prides itself on both its martial as well as arcane programs. Though the academy itself could be a small village, only a couple dozen students are admitted into each graduating class.

Structure

The academy is governed by one headmaster that is considered the head of the council, a five member group that is responsible for different aspects of the academy. The five council positions are Master of the Arcane; Instructor of the Blade; Headmaster; Keeper of the Tomes; and Treasurer of Coin. The council convenes only once or twice every academic year, when it is time to consider new recruits and when they consider the candidates for graduation. Each council member is sworn in for life and when replaced, all allumni and students decide who will be appointed next. Since a member serves the Academy for their entire life, they are not permitted to apply for a new position, even if they resign from their previous position.

Culture

The academy runs a very strict program both for it's instructors and students. The original council believed that if the students were to abide strictly to the way Ignis lived then they would grow to be as powerful as them. This means that students starting at age 10 are required to spend one night a semester on the streets with nothing but their clothes. Additionally, each class spars with the class above them at some point in the winter in order to show the class what they need to do to improve. The graduating class must spar with an established Gauntlet member to pass. For the faculty, any hint of morally questionable behavior can lead to termination regardless of their history with the Academy.

Public Agenda

The academy is seen as a training grounds for the youth that can generate either powerful adventurers or future officers in the Gauntlet or Ultribar Army. They promise that their students will bring peace to any settlement they protect, claiming that they will usher in a new golden age.

Assets

The Tomes of the Crimson is the library that all academy graduates or faculty have access to for their entire life. Inside there is a great number of books on virtually every known topic to the Scorchlands. Anything from spellbooks to military formations are stashed away in the Tomes which is protected by a magical spell casted centuries ago that protects the library from the outside.    Due to their large number of adventurers produced, the academy has a lucrative deal with several carpenters, weaponsmiths, and armorers. This allows students and alumni to work closely with these tradespeople to craft custom weapons for a very generous price.

History

After the death of Ignis Finley, his wife Lilliana donated a large portion of his fortune to founding the Crimson Academy and served as the first headmaster. While there she also founded the Tomes, adding Ignis' journals detailing his training and early life to the archives. Since it's founding it has produced a great number of prestigious adventurers. It has however, never had a valedictorian that lives longer than a year after graduation before dying on an adventure or of an illness, known as the Crawford curse. Henry Crawford was the first valedictorian of the academy and perished after he was killed in a cave in while on a mission to find Ignis' final resting place.
