Grand Temple of the Scorpion Queen

Founded by the original worshippers of Moruba, the Scorpion Queen, this temple is now the largest temple dedicated to the goddess in the world. It lies at the middle of the city of Aralnon, and millions of worshippers visit it every day. Its Priestesses are known to have the honor of performing rites for the royal family.

Purpose / Function

To give the worshippers of Moruba a consistent place to practice their religion.

Architecture

The temple is made of stone, it lies in the eastern regions of the Dark Elf Boroughs, and its spires nearly reach the top of the boroughs at that point of the city. The exterior reminds one of an old gothic church: high, pointy ceilings and roofs, great spires, and great ornate windows. Visitors enter to two grand gates, while the priests enter through a smaller side entrance. The interior features long hallways, and marble stone floors.

Defenses

While the doors are made from heavy hardwood, they are enchanted to never splinter: they are, in fact, as hard as the stone that the temple is built from. Within the spires lie crystals to enact a magical forcefield around the building when necessary: only those with pure intentions could pass through it. These crystals do not need to be activated by a mage, and trigger upon intentional damage to the exterior, forcefully shoving back any attackers who may be present at the time of activation.

History

The Grand Temple to the Scorpion Queen is as old as the Dark Elf civilization itself: it is said that the first settlers of the Dark Elf Boroughs built it in gratitude for Moruba afyer praying for respite from their long journey through the tunnels.
