Grand Clergy of the Scorpion Queen

Founded by the original worshippers of Moruba, the Scorpion Queen, this members of this clergy are directly descended from them. The queen's personal Royal Priestess is chosen from this pool of clergy members.

Mythology & Lore

The Dark Elves were said to have come from an ancient Elven race, and they were cursed by Baresis because the Trogur pantheon caught them being curious about worshipping the three gods that would one day be the Galuesa pantheon. The Dark Elves were then banished to the Underground, but blessed by Moruba to see better in the darkness, and even flourish there. They have now made their home in the Dark Elf Boroughs.

Worship

When a visitor to the temple wants to pray, they approach a Monk on duty in the temple. They will fetch a lantern holding incense and fuel, and the worshipper will kneel in front of one of the altars. While the Monk carries the lit incense to the altar, the worshipper says a prayer, and the Monk detaches the lantern from it's handle to place the incense on the altar. The worshipper finishes their prayer, and the Monk says a few words of blessing. This concludes the prayer.   Many Dark Elves have a small altar and some incense sticks at home for quick prayers. Small scorpion idols are commonly carried, and small idols of Moruba are usually placed on the home altar.

Priesthood

The position of Royal Priestess is the highest one can attain, and both it and the higher positions in the clergy are reserved for women. The High Priestesses answer to her, and sometimes come from the Grand Temple to check on the other temples. Beneath those are the Priestesses: they manage the daily matters of a temple. Under her are the Monks: almost exclusively a male position, and the highest they can attain in the clergy.
