Forested Lands

The forested lands of Sanoris make up the majority of the Sanori landmass. Aptly named, these lands are covered in thick coniferous forests.

It is easy to get lost in the never-ending swaths of trees. The forested lands are known for their tendency to make all things--people, places, secrets--disappear.

Geography

"Even the sky cannot be relied upon to guide you through the wood, as the trees spread their limbs to cover it. You must take every step with care, else you will be devoured."
— Great Forest native describing the merciless nature of the woods

Almost fifty percent of Sanoris is covered with trees. Also known as the Sanori Great Forest, this unbroken swath of woods has many different ecoregions, which fall into three categories: the Plain's Edge, Heartlands, and Snow Forest.

Plain's Edge

The parts of the forests that border the Sanori Grasslands are generally more sparse. The trees are a mix of coniferous and deciduous species that can survive long periods without water.

The wildlife of the plain's edge is transient, consisting of both primarily forest species and primarily grassland species. A few species, such as the gemsteed, live specifically along the edge of the forest, migrating back and forth during the day.

Heartlands

Considered the largest ecoregion, the heartlands are the thick, rich, coniferous forests at the center of the forested lands. Coniferous trees dominate the ecosystem here, some of which grow to astonishing sizes. Birds, reptiles, and mammals of all shapes and sizes call the heartlands their home.

Snow Forest

The northern reaches of the forested lands are called the Snow Forest, as they are covered in thick snow for the majority of the Dusk year. Once again dominated by coniferous trees, the life here has learned to withstand the brutal weather conditions.

The Snow Forest is highly seasonal. It is much more forgiving during Dawn years, when the snow melts and the climate shifts to something that can almost be considered warmth. Many species go through a period of dormancy during one season and can only be found during the other, making the snow forest a completely different place depending on the year.

Ecosystem Cycles

The further north into the forested lands you go, the more it is affected by the seasonal shift between Dusk and Dawn years. Plain's Edge forests experience more differences in temperature, while the Snow Forest experiences more differences in precipitation and active wildlife. The seasonal changes in the Heartlands vary depending on the location.
