Bishop Syndrome

Causes

Bishop Syndrome is caused either by direct exposure to Prophet’s Light spores or by consuming improperly refined Light Sap.

Symptoms

Approximately six months to a year after exposure the victim will begin emitting a pale light from their skin. As the fungus takes hold in the spinal cord a crusty moss will begin growing along the spine starting at the base and proceeding upward until it reaches the victim's brain.

Once the brain has been infected the victim will begin hearing disembodied voices and cognitive function will begin to decline while physical strength increases significantly. Within a few days, the victim's head will develop the same crusty growth beginning at the sides of the head and eventually encasing the skull. At that point, the lichen spreads across the remaining flesh until it becomes a bioluminescent exoskeleton leaving the victim little more than a rabid predator.

It is unknown how long someone can live after transformation has completed

History

Bishop Syndrome was first observed following The Radiant Convention of 1786. Eager to share the discovery of Light Sap, Lucy Brighton called a gathering of Nezzonites in Claystown. Though Lucy's health had been failing she insisted on giving a mass communion at the closing ceremonies and distributed Light Sap to her congregation, declaring it a staple of holy life. In the days after the Convention, however, Lucy's health took a turn and she fell victim to Bishop Syndrome.
