Prophet’s Light
History
Prophet’s Light was first discovered in the mines beneath Mount Verrin by Sister Edna and her mining operation. When the wall into the Brighton Chamber was initially breached, the miners were shocked to see the cavern was already lit and smelled strongly of lavendar and honey.
Upon further inspection they found a thick lichen cover most of the iron veins that lined the walls. Sister Edna
Basic Information
Growth Rate & Stages
Natural
In a natural environment, Prophet's Light spores attach to mineral deposits and begins breaking them down to feed itself. Within hours of coming in contact with the deposit the spores will begin to glow as they break down the minerals, eventually growing into a small mossy like patch that gives off a gentle white light. Prophet's Light typically blooms a year after taking root. When it blooms a single glowing mushroom grows from the center, giving off greater light as it grows. When the mushroom reaches four inches height they begin center will explode, spreading more spores. The remaining head begins to secrete a thick sap for several months until it eventually shrivels and the lichen dies.
Hosted
Should Prophet's Light spores or it's sap be ingested by humans without proper preparation the plant will take root. Signs of infection do not begin to show until six months to a year at which time, the victim will find beginning to emit a soft light. Within days of initial symptoms, moss will begin to grow along the victims spine and slowly move upward toward their head. Once Prophet's light reaches it's victim's brain the moss will spread to the rest of the body and harden into a bioluminescent exoskeleton. Once an infection is complete Prophet's Light will bloom on an annual basis, producing several mushroom heads on the exoskeleton that will eventually mature to release spores and sap much as in it's natural environment.
