    Founding

    The Tournament of the Kami was the means by which the eight Kami who landed in what would become Rokugan decided who would be their leader and the leader of their new empire. It was a single-elimination martial tournament. Each of the Kami participated, except Togashi. In the end, Hantei was the victor over each of his siblings that he faced.

    The Day of Thunder

    According to Shinsei, The Day of Thunder was the time in the Kharmic cycle in which the champions of Yomi must face the Champion of Jigoku, to determine whether the next thousand years will be a Thousand Years of Peace or a Thousand Years of Darkness. Jigoku sought to spread its corruption through the Mortal Realm, while the powers of the Celestial Heavens sought to leave Ningen-do free to seek its own fate.

815 IC and beyond

The return of the much-changed Ki-Rin Clan to Rokugan began a time of great change and social upheaval within the Emerald Empire. For the first time since the founding of the Empire, Great Clans nearly came to true war against one another. Gaijin goods and people entered the Emerald Empire in numbers unseen since the Battle of White Stag. Some scholars wonder if these great changes are the cause of the current elemental imbalance observed by shugenja and demonstrated in the cataclysmic earthquake and tsunami of 1120.
