Project: LEXICON
Project: LEXICON is the name given to the secret, pseudo-military organization of Orochthan Builders that was established for the express purpose of effectuating an undertaking of the same name. Led by the current Tålthjar, Hrifvang, it is an organization bent toward a singular goal: the reclamation of the Shardscape realm now known as the Frostmere, and the restoration of the Builder civilization to the heights that it occupied before the fall.
Known only to the intelligence networks of the Dominion and the nation of Shatterspear, it is widely believed that the moment the organization steps forward into the light of day will be the birth of a new technological power in the Shardscape. For the time being, Project: LEXICON is able to escape notice of some of the larger players on the scene, but at the current rate of the group's progression, it won't be long before its capabilities have grown too great to remain hidden entirely.
Culture
The organizational culture of Project: LEXICON is characterized by zealous dedication and slavish obedience to Hrifvang's designs. Although the Builders of Orochtha celebrated the appointment of Hrifvang to Tålthjar, most did not do so without reservation. The majority of Orochtha's Builders understand the necessity of a visionary like Hrifvang when it comes to achieving their people's sole ambition. The members of Project: LEXICON, however, are true believers. They have unwavering faith in Hrifvang's vision for their people's future, and are convinced that no Builder is more dedicated to the fulfillment of their people's dream than Hrifvang. In this way, Project: LEXICON is practically a cult of personality built around Hrifvang.
In contrast to most such cults, however, where there exists a certain infallibility ascribed to the beloved leader, the analytical nature of Builders, who are trained from birth by the way they perceive the world to spot flaws and address problems, coupled with their zealous desire to see Hrifvang's imagined future turned into reality, members of Project: LEXICON are not afraid to interrogate perceived flaws and oversights in front of Hrifvang.
In turn, Hrifvang delights at the input; from his perspective, he is but one Builder. It is, physically and metaphysically, impossible for him to see the entire breadth of the project, both from a bird's eye view, and on a microscopic level. He welcomes the challenges as a means to improve the plan, shore up weaknesses, and address potential issues before they cause trouble. Indeed, he encourages them, and impresses upon members that it is their duty to seek out his shortcomings.
History
Following the fall of Builder civilization in the realm now known as the Frostmere, one of the groups of survivors found their way to Orochtha. There, they took refuge, building out meager lives for themselves deep in the earth. Their subterranean activities attracted the attention of a variety of threats—and on one fateful occasion, unlikely friends. The Tourmaline Geon encountered the Builders when the sound of their digging disturbed the Tourmaline Geons' home, and despite initial tensions, the two peoples became fast friends.
With the help of the Tourmaline Geon, the Builders established roots in Orochtha. And with the matter of survival resolved, the Builders turned their minds to other matters: namely, what they were to do in the aftermath of the destruction of their civilization. On consideration, they decided that there was only one thing they could do: retake the Frostmere and rebuild—whatever the cost. A younger Hrifvang presented a compelling case to the Council of Elders and was appointed as Tålthjar, given access to all the resources the Builders had at their disposal.
To bring his vision into reality, Hrifvang gathered the brightest minds that the Builders in Orochtha could offer. He convinced them of his goals, earned their buy-in, and eventually, won their dedication. These individuals became the basis of Project: LEXICON, and as the needs of the endeavor ballooned, more and more Builders who were convinced of Hrifvang's agenda were brought into the fold. With the assistance of the Tourmaline Geon, the first of Project: LEXICON's prototype creations was soon made ready.
As luck would have it, the perfect opportunity to test the Model-GENYNG arose in the form of the Orochthan Wealth Wars. Having kept to their entirely subterranean dwellings, the Builders were a surprise to both sides of the conflict when they emerged. Their nature as earth elementals helped the Orochthans accept them as allies, and in exchange, Project: LEXICON coordinated with the military command of the Orochthan forces to optimize the deployment of the five prototype Model-GENYNG they had in their possession.
Although the Model-GENYNG proved incapable of turning the tide of war, their presence on the battlefield proved enough of a deterrent for long enough to buy the Orochthans time to breathe. The delay that the Model-GENYNG provided extended the conflict just long enough for the elementals to awaken and destroy the enemy belligerents in their fury. Although Hrifvang and Project: LEXICON had hoped for better performance, the real-world deployment of the Model-GENYNG produced invaluable data that was used in the next development of the next-generation warmachine: the Model-OTHLON, so named in honor of their Tourmaline Geon collaborators.
Prototypes of the Model-OTHLON are undergoing testing and performance evaluation in undisclosed locations, while manufacturing processes are being refined. Insiders put the first production-ready unit at 10 years away, but Dominion leadership believe the true figure is closer to 5 years, and are working on countermeasures under the assumption that the first production-ready Model-OTHLON will be completed in under three.
