Hrifvang

Tålthjar to strangers and most Builders. Director to members of Project: LEXICON

Hrifvang, Tålthjar of the Builders of Orochtha, is a pivotal figure in both the history of his people, and the history of Orochtha, the realm in which they sought refuge following the fall of their civilization in the Shardscape realm that is now known as the Frostmere—their ancestral home.   Besides unifying the Builders under a single cause—a single vision—Hrifvang also altered the course of the Orochthan Wealth Wars with his intervention, which bought the Orochthan forces enough time to regroup and mount a more effective defense of their holdings. And through Project: LEXICON, it seems likely that Hrifvang will continue to play a pivotal role in the history of his people and those who are around him.

Personal history

A savant from birth and a juvenile during the fall of the Builder Civilization, struggle defined Hrifvang's upbringing. His formative years were spent in chaos and uncertainty, which shaped his desire to restore his people to what he believed was their rightful place. He dedicated his young life to the study of runelore, and all the other systems by which beings might call upon powers that can accomplish more than mortal hands could. By the time he matured into an adult, he knew runelore so deeply and so intimately that he was able to give himself his own Mark of Mastery, in the process becoming one of only a handful of Builders who became Primes after the fall of Builder civilization.   When the Builders decided to work toward the reclamation of the Frostmere, it was Hrifvang's vision of the future, and how the Builders were most likely to accomplish their desired goal that won him the tile of Tålthjar. Using the powers the Council of Elders bestowed upon him, he forged the Builders of Orochtha into a society unified under a single objective. And after establishing Project: LEXICON and bringing to life the Model-GENYNG, he brought the Builders out of their subterranean dwellings to join the fight against the outsiders during the Orochthan Wealth Wars.   While Hrifvang's intervention was not sufficient to turn the tide of the conflict entirely, it was nevertheless pivotal. Without the Builder forces and the Model-GENYNG that he brought to the fore, the Orochthan forces would have been overrun months earlier than they were. And while it is likely that the elementals would have awoken to smite the enemy with their fury regardless, without Hrifvang and the Builders, the Orochthans would have suffered irrecoverable losses.

Morality & Philosophy

Hrifvang is slavishy dedicated to his people. He believes that they were denied their birthright, and is driven to restore what he believes was taken from them. He acknowledges the value of morality in a functional society, but he views Builder society, as it exists in Orochtha, as fundamentally flawed. And so, he believes that the mending of Builder society in Orochtha is the supreme moral imperative that justifies the use of any means necessary to restore what he perceives as the "missing piece" thereof.   This is not to say that Hrifvang is a genocidal maniac. He is pragmatic to a fault and hates being wasteful. He considers the unnecessary loss of lives in the pursuit of one's obectives to be the most wasteful mistake of all—if one must take lives, one should aim for one's adversaries, and no one else.
