Dathomir ([dæθəmi:ɹ])

Dathomir was a dangerous and uninviting world. However, it had a surprisingly temperate and comfortable atmosphere.

The planet was perpetually bathed in a red mist that seemed to come from the depths of the earth, and the terrain was one of contrasts, with areas covered in dark, murky swamps and others in harsh, barren rocks.

The flora and fauna of Dathomir was just as dangerous as the planet itself.

Besides the rancor, other native creatures included the bane back spider, which was a large and aggressive arachnid that spat corrosive acid, and nydak, which were bipedal predators with powerful arms that allowed them to traverse the difficult landscape with ease. Among the most distinctive creatures native to Dathomir was the chirodactyl, a species of gigantic bat that used its massive wings to fly to great heights and swoop down on unwary prey. One of these chirodactyls was known by the native Nightbrothers as "the winged daemon of the canyon" and was particularly feared by them.

Dathomir also had substantial aquatic life, including the burra fish, which was traditionally consumed in a stew. Another aquatic species was known as "The Sleeper." It was an ancient mollusc with two large lavender eyes, a carapace-covered body, antennae, and four appendages. It lived deep in the murky blue waters in and around the Nightsister lair. The Sleeper was incredibly important in Nightsister tradition, as it provided an ingredient vital in the Water Of Life.

Dathomir is rich in ore, which is the planet's sole economic contributor.

There is no tourism on Dathomir. In fact, many Dathomirians who get the chance to leave typically try not to return.
