Mental characteristics
Personal history
Benjamin was born in England. His father had been a general in the British army and he chose to follow the same path at seventeen. At his father's encouragement, Benjamin married a wealthy young heiress, Eleanor, when he was only twenty. They had two children before Benjamin left to fight in the Seven Years' War. After the war, which deeply impacted him, he and Eleanor had three more children before her death. When the Revolution began, Benjamin accepted the rank of colonel and continued his career in America as the commander of Colonel Edmonds's Regiment.
Sexuality
Benjamin finds himself equally attracted to men and women, though he never considered the possibility of having a romantic relationship with another man. Most of his relationships with other men were for physical pleasure and emotional release during times of war. He did not consider it possible to allow himself romantic attachments to another man in times of peace. To use 21st century terms, Benjamin is bisexual and heteroromantic - usually.
Employment
Benjamin has been in the British army since he was seventeen, following the example of his father who had been a general. By the time he went to America to out down what was thought to be a simple rebellion, he had earned the rank of colonel.
Mental Trauma
The things Benjamin has seen in both the Seven Years' War and the American Revolution have deeply impacted him. He was especially affected by the Revolution and it's civil war-like conditions.
Morality & Philosophy
Benjamin has spent most of his life believing in the ultimate authority of king and country, but in his more recent years at war he has come to recognize the horrors that people can inflict on each other at the direction of their governments. Now he simply obeys the requirements of his position in the army because it's what he's used to doing. He has yet to truly decide where his true moral compass leads.

Benjamin's motivation for serving in the military was to have a steady and dependable career, and to advance as high as possible like his father, who had become a general. Having seen two wars, he now simply wants to live a peaceful and unimportant life.
